American Legion

Today, the American Legion celebrates 99 years of serving America's veterans.

The American Legion is a U.S. veterans advocacy organization formed this day in 1919. In addition to organizing commemorative events, members of the Legion volunteer at Veterans Administration (VA) clinics and lobby for veterans benefits. Most notably, the Legion was instrumental in passing the Serviceman's Readjustment Act of 1944 -- or, the "G.I. Bill."

Daylight Saving Time

The concept of daylight saving was the brainchild of George Hudson in 1895. It was not for another two decades that DST would be used. The German Empire and Austria-Hungary organized the first nationwide implementation of DST on April 30,1916. Around the equator, daylight saving is not widely observed. This is due to the fact that the sunrise does not vary enough to justify its use. For example, Brazil does not observe DST, but the southernmost part does. In other major countries, such as Asia and Africa, it is generally not observed.

Just don’t forget to forward your clocks!

Toggle %s Navy Reserve's Birthday

Posted By:  SGT A.Bee @ March 03, 2018 - 02:12 PM

aFHyFhs.jpg

Ready Now, Anytime, Anywhere

These are the words which encapsulate the United States Navy Reserve. The Naval Reserve Force was founded in 1915 thanks to the efforts of Secretary of the Navy Josephus Daniels, and his young assistant Franklin D. Roosevelt. Their efforts were what brought passage of legislation on March 3, 1915, which appropriated funding for such a force. The USNR served in the cockpits of biplanes and as U-boat hunters during the Great War.

Just before Japanese fighter pilots roared over Pearl Harbor on December 7th, 1941, members of the USNR fired the first U.S. shots of World War 2 by sinking a Japanese mini-sub just outside the entrance of the harbor. Over the next four years, the Navy grew its numbers from 383,150 soldiers to 3,405,525, most of which were reservists. Lyndon B. Johnson, Richard Nixon, and Gerald Ford all served in the Navy Reserve during World War 2. Renamed the U.S. Navy Reserve in 2005, the Reserve has transformed from a force in waiting for massive mobilization to an integral component in carrying out the mission of the U.S. Navy.

Today, we celebrate 103 years of our Naval Reservists and their continued efforts to ensure our safety and freedom.

“We must remember that the Reserves, which represent twenty percent of our warfighting force, are absolutely vital to our Navy’s ability to fight and win wars now and in the future.”

-Admiral William J. Fallon

Deployment Information

The Department of the Army has announced the spring 2018 deployment of the 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division to Korea. They will be replacing the 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division as a part of a regular rotation of forces. This deployment marks the historic return of the 3rd Infantry Division to Korea. The division supported combat missions of the Eighth Army until 1953 fighting valiantly during the Battle of the Chosin Reservoir, at the Chorwon-Kumwha area, Jackson Heights, and Arrowhead outposts.

"The Raider Brigade has a proud history of answering the nation's call. Our unit recently completed a rigorous training cycle that culminated with a decisive action training environment rotation to the National Training Center at Fort Irwin, California. We are trained and ready to perform our mission as part of a long-standing alliance between the Republic of Korea and the United States."

Col. Mike Adams, 1st Armored Brigade commander.
