    Areas of Strength

Cover/Concealment: First Platoon used smoke, terrain features, and infrastructure to close with and engage the enemy during assaults; and Squads utilized cover to gain the most advantageous positions to maintain fire superiority.

CQB: Teams employed skills learned in Battle Drill 6. effectively, clearing a large number of enemy-held buildings in the AO; and Soldiers moved quickly, keeping pressure on the enemy.

MOUT: Widowmakers overall used effective street fighting tactics while clearing each of the objectives; Squads bypassed or secured LDA/ODA, using cover to flank, fix, and destroy enemy positions; and Soldiers utilized large buildings to scan and track targets.

    Areas of Weakness

Comms: Soldiers must maintain tactical comms at all times; report contacts and situation up the CoC to improve capabilities at all levels of the Company; and 2IC/3IC report changes in command to Platoon HQ within 1 minute.

Flank Security: When clearing confirmed hostile locations, conduct a thorough sweep of the area; clear buildings by buddy or fireteams and mark as clear on the map; and do not rush past uncleared buildings toward the enemy.

Movement: Squads should employ bounding when advancing under fire; and coordinate at the Platoon level for large scale assaults.

    Suggested Improvements

    Mission Summary

First Platoon flew to LZ Abaco and moved north to clear OBJ Murgese of GSIM forces. After securing the village, Soldiers discovered a group of civilians that terrorists had evidently executed before our arrival. Widowmakers then continued marching north to OBJ Breton, assaulting the village from PL Alpha on the southeast.

From there, we moved northeast toward Malian and IDAP forces in Bakaho. After linking up with the local Malian Army commander, First Platoon quickly moved north to OBJ Kinsky and launched a Platoon Assault. Squads cleared their respective sectors with heavy contacts throughout the assault. Despite taking high casualties, Widowmakers secured the city and formed for debrief there. The mission started at 1500 and ended at 1730. Mission was COMPLETED.
