    LOADOUT SOP

Introduction These loadouts are pre-approved by at the Company level. Leadership may modify as needed, be sure to check your OPORD or ask your first line leader if any changes are needed for the day’s mission. This list will be updated as needed. Instructions There are two codes after the name of the loadout. The first code is used with the Virtual Arsenal (Bohemia Interactive), the second code is used with the Ace Arsenal. Generally you will not want the Ace version, but they are there for redundancy. Open Arma Navigate to the Virtual Arsenal (Tutorials - Virtual Arsenal) [Ace Arsenal if necessary] Alt-Tab to this document. Highlight the code within the applicable block. Press CTRL - C to copy. Alt-Tab back into ARMA. Press the Import button. Save the loadout with a unique name. Ace - Swift : Tomorrow-night-blue BI Arsenal - swift : dracula Directory - Click the name to jump to that loadout. How to set primary frequency: Open the radio by pressing the appropriate keybind. Default is CTRL + P. Press the #1 on your keyboard numpad to ensure that you are on Radio Channel 1. (Your radio should say C1 on the left). Click within the Current Frequency display as referenced in the image on the left. Select over the numbers on the right. Type to enter your desired primary frequency. Refer to the Radio Frequencies and Zone Groups table above to find your appropriate frequency. Press the ENT button to set the frequency. Do a radio check to make sure others can hear you on the same frequency (the default button is CAPSLOCK): "Radio check, frequency two-one-one (etc)". If others hear you, it is customary to hear back "Lima Charlie", which stands for loud and clear. Other responses could include "Good Copy" or "I Read You Five by Five." How to set alternative frequency: With the radio open, press the #2 on your keyboard numpad. You should notice the radio go to Channel 2 (as noted by C2 in the left side of the Current Frequency window). Press the Set Additional Channel button which looks like ◄. You should see the C2 change to A2. Set your desired alternate channel. Refer to the Radio Channels and Zone Groups table above to find your desired alternate frequency. For team leaders this may be your squad net (XX0) or for Squad leaders this could be Platoon net (3X). Press the ENT button to set the frequency. Press #1 on your keyboard numpad again to go back to your primary channel. Now test your secondary radio channel by pressing the assigned key. (TFR Default is the letter T). As before, if others on the same frequency hear your communication, they will reply back "Lima Charlie" or one of the other above listed methods. Note that you can now continue to use CAPSLOCK (default) to transmit over your primary frequency, while having the ability to transmit over the alternate frequency using T (default). RT-1523G Long Range Radio The RT-1523G Long Range Radio has a similar interface to the AN/PRC-152 although it is much bigger in size. This is the interface of the standard long range radio used by the 3rd Infantry Division during our operations. Individuals most likely to use this radio include: Squad Leaders, Platoon RTO's, Aviators & Company Commanders. Here's how you use it & set up an additional channel. *NOTE: Whereas the short range radios can use frequencies between 30 and 512Mhz, the long range is restricted to frequencies between 30 and 87Mhz How to set primary long range frequency: Open the radio using your keyboard shortcut. The default keys are ALT + P. When the interface is open, you should see the radio set to Channel 1 (noted by C1 in the left hand side of the screen). Here you can change the frequency for your "command" channel (for example, 32 for 2nd Platoon). Click the "FREQ" button. This will set your primary communications channel. Proceed to send a test transmission using the keys you have selected for this radio. The default key combination is CTRL+ CAPSLOCK. How to set additional long range frequency: With your radio open, select program channel 2 by either clicking the #2 on the interface, or by pressing CTRL + #2 (on your numpad). You should see the screen change from C1 to C2. Now that you are on Broadcast Channel 2, insert your secondary frequency. For example, Brawlers is 60. Click on the "FREQ" button, followed by clicking on the button labeled "ERF OFST" which is short for ECCM Remote Fill / Offset. You should see the radio screen switch from C2 to CA. This now means that channel 2 has been set as your secondary radio channel. Click the #1 on the radio or press CTRL + #1 (on your numpad) to go back to your default channel. Test your alternate channel by pressing your assigned keyboard key. The default key is Y.
  7. Introduction This document is used to teach, develop and allow understanding of military communications altered for use in the 3rd Infantry Division within Armed Assault 3 (ARMA3). It allows advanced military communications to be utilized at a basic level to relay information and create a enhanced MILSIM Platform. Advanced Radio Communications Course (ARCC) Document Outline RATEL RATEL Information Pro Words Numeral & Phonetic Alphabet List Communication Strength List Color Scheme Callsigns Radio Structure REPORTS CHECKS CONTACT LOCSTAT SITREP SALE ACE Call for Fire; Mortars Aviation Support Request’s RATEL - Radiotelephone Communications RATEL is the language utilized by the military no matter the setting (field, base etc) when using radio telecommunications. It enable streamlined and organised communications and relay of information. RATEL uses only relevant information to give a fast and reliable communications method without the needed for unneeded traffic over radio networks. Due to this RATEL is a fundamental skill that should be understood, taught and utilised to effectively communicate within the unit. RATEL Information Use Phonetic Alphabet When Pronouncing numbers, say them individually (Grid 1212 = WUN, TOO, WUN, TOO) Avoid Titles, Ranks or Positions Whoever Starts The Conversation Ends It Pro-Words This Is (This transmission is from the designated call-sign that follows) Radio Check (Requesting a radio check, please respond if you can hear me) Over (End of Current Message, response required) Out (End of Conversation, no response required) Wait Out (I must pause, I will transmit again as soon as possible, used if 5 seconds or more is required to compile a response eg: reports) More To Follow (I have a long message i need to separate. The RTO prepares the call for fire and transmits it as a request, not an order, over the desired radio network whether that be platoon, or company net. The Call is sent quickly, but clearly enough to be understood, recorded, and read back without error by the Firing element’s leader. The call for fire consists of six elements sent in three transmissions with a break and a read back after each part. The three transmissions break down into the six elements as shown in the below. First Transmission Identification Request Fire Mission Second Transmission Target Location Third Transmission Target Description Method of engagement & Ammunition Method of control Due to the high explosive nature, and requirement for precise aiming of ordinance, all radio calls must be read back very clearly to avoid a misfire. First Transmission On the first transmission you will first Identify yourself and identify the type of fire mission you are requesting there are two types of fire missions Adjust Fire Fire for Effect Adjust Fire Announced when the RTO decides that an adjustment is needed because of questionable target location One gun fires one round at a time until the round is close enough for the entire firing unit to engage the target. The RTO and FO will co-ordinate sighting the fall of the rounds. This avoids wasted ammunition, but may allow the enemy time to leave the target area or seek cover. After calling adjust fire, if a round falls in the desired location the RTO may immediately call “Fire for Effect” to initiate a full volley. Fire for Effect Announced when the RTO has an accurate target location and is certain that the first volley will have an effect on the target All guns of the firing unit fire simultaneously creating a volley of fire. RTO should strive for first round fire for effect Example ALPHA | THIS IS BRAVO | REQUEST FIRE MISSION | ADJUST FIRE | OVER BRAVO | THIS IS ALPHA | ROGER | FIRE MISSION | ADJUST FIRE | OVER Second Transmission The second element is target location. The RTO provides the Firing Element with the target location data that he determined using either the grid, and Keypad method. The RTO announces the word, “Grid,” followed by the six-digit coordinate aided with a keypad location of the target for accuracy. Example ALPHA | TARGET LOCATION | GRID 023 BREAK 321 BREAK KEYPAD 5 | OVER BRAVO | TARGET LOCATION | GRID 023 BREAK 321 BREAK KEYPAD 5 | OVER ALPHA | READBACK CORRECT Third Tansmission Target Description Method of engagement & Ammunition Method of control Target Description. The target description should provide enough detail to enable the Firing Element to determine the amount and type of ammunition to be used. The RTO’s description should be brief, but accurate, and contain the: Type of target (troops, supply dump, trucks) Target activity (digging in, assembly area) Number of elements in the target (squad, three trucks) Degree of protection (in the open, in fighting holes, in bunkers with overhead cover) Method of Engagement. Method of engagement is the element that the RTO uses to describe the attack of the target. The options are “Danger close” and “Clear”. “Danger Close” is included when the predicted impact of A mortar or artillery round is within 600 meters of friendly troops A 127mm round (Naval Guns) is within 750 meters of friendly troops When alerted that the target is danger close, the Firing Element will take added precautions in the delivery of fires. “Clear” appends to Ranges beyond 600m have a 99 percent assurance that a casualty producing hit on friendly troops will not occur. Ammunition An RTO has several types of ammunition available. It is preferred that the observer request the shell combination that is best suited to the type of target you are attacking but the fire support agency will ultimately choose the best type of ammunition based off of a variety of things. However, one of the most important things that agency will go off of is the TARGET DESCRIPTION the observer gives (quantitative and accurate). The standard type of ammunition is HE/Q. The RTO must specifically request nonstandard projectiles ie; flares, smoke . Method of Control method of fire, is a technique that allows the RTO to control the specific weapon and sequence of firing during adjustment and fire for effect “At my command.” If the RTO wants to control the time of delivery of fire, he announces, “At my command” in the method of control. When the pieces (weapons) are ready to fire, the Firing element announces, “Section is ready to fire, over.” (Call signs are used.) The RTO announces, “Fire,” when he is ready for the pieces to fire (this only applies to adjusting rounds and the volleys of the fire for effect). “At my command” remains in effect during the mission until the FO announces, “Cancel At My Command, over.” “Time on target” (TOT). TOT is a method of firing on a target in which the unit times its fire so that the initial round strikes the target at the time specified by the FO. For example, “TOT 45” (rounds impact at 45 minutes past the hour). “Fire at will” The RTO after spotting the fall of the first volley, may request a fire at will followed by a number of volleys. For example “Fire at will, 3x volleys, over” Example Third Transmission ALPHA | TARGET IS A SQUAD OF INFANTRY IN A COMPOUND STATIONARY | BREAK | ENGAGEMENT CLEAR | REQUESTING HE ROUNDS | AT MY COMMAND | OVER BRAVO | TARGET IS A SQUAD OF INFANTRY IN A COMPOUND STATIONARY | BREAK | ENGAGEMENT CLEAR | REQUESTING HE ROUNDS | AT YOUR COMMAND | OVER Firing Phase In our example situation we have just created from the previous 3 calls. The mortar team is set up for an adjust fire mission, on an enemy position. Once the RTO sights the fall of the rounds, and he is happy with the location he will call for a change to “fire for effect” (where they will go into salvo fire) . The RTO is calling for “At his command” therefore he must call each time he wishes for the firing element to fire a round/salvo. Once the firing element is ready they will alert the RTO that they are ready to fire at which point the firing begins. BRAVO | ALPHA IS READY TO FIRE | OVER ALPHA | FIRE | OVER When the firing element releases their rounds the element leader will call “shot” to alert the RTO that the rounds are airborne. The RTO will spot the fall of the rounds and call “Splash” followed by “Good Effect”, “Shift Fire”, “Repeat” or “Mission Complete” ALPHA | SPLASH | SHIFT | 500 METERS WEST | OVER BRAVO | SHIFT | 500 METERS WEST | READY | OVER ALPHA | FIRE | OVER SHOT | OVER Now the RTO may switch to Fire for effect, if he so desires, followed by a mission complete ALPHA | GOOD EFFECT | FIRE FOR EFFECT | OVER BRAVO | FIRE FOR EFFECT | READY | OVER ALPHA | FIRE | OVER SHOT | OVER ALPHA | SPLASH | GOOD EFFECT | MISSION COMPLETE | OVER BRAVO | MISSION COMPLETE | OUT All Fire missions will be completed with a Battle Damage Assessment for the Battle Damage assessment see page 23 Contacting Aviation Elements When communicating with Aviation assets your primary point of contact will be the aviation’s Air Operations Officer (AOO) Their callsign will be “Brawler”, they are in charge of coordinating all aviation assets as required by ground units, as well as leading them in a Combat Air Patrol. You will request any and all support from the AOO, and he/she will then assign an aircraft to your task. After the assignment you will direct all further communications to that specific aircraft. Often if the Aviation frequency becomes cluttered you will be assigned a private frequency. Whenever communicating instructions to aviation assets it is imperative you alert them to the type of control that is in effect. Type 1 Control All Ingress and Egress headings are confirmed clear by the radio operator, to the best of their ability. The Aviation asset may assume a safe flight path to the desired target/LZ/AO. This responsibility is taken on by the RTO’s Standard Operating Procedure and ensures that the aircraft will remain behind defilade, or far enough away from enemy assets as to not pose a threat to the aircraft. Type 2 Control Advises aviation assets that the strike is at the aircraft’s own risk, that ingress and egress headings have not been thoroughly cleared of hostile forces or other aircraft to a level an RTO’s operating procedure. This relinquishes some control over to the pilot, allowing them to note that they may change the strike to suit a more safe path to the target/LZ/AO. The 9-line The 9-line is essential to calling in any type of aviation support, in just 9 short simple lines you give a pilot who has just arrived to a battle at 3,000 feet the information he/she needs to get an accurate picture of the situation and what his/her job is. Pictured below is a 9-line card The Procedure for CAS, CASEVAC & MEDEVAC, And Transport all remain mostly the same, the only change is the target description. All of these requests will follow a 9-line format. Each 9-line regardless of location can give a pilot the general information needed to create a picture of the battlefield. (Link for enlarged Image:http://i.imgur.com/rICGNwP.jpg) An initial point(IP) is an arbitrary point established by the radio operator from which all requests begin. Often times the IP’s will be pre-planned between the RTO’s and Aviation elements however, you may always create a new IP to suit your needs, but it will need to be related to aviation elements. Ingress and Egress Ingress is the initial approach heading to the target, this should always be an area clear of hostiles and if possible behind defilade to the target. It should always parallel the friendly advance, in rare cases this may change. If the attack heading is opposite friendly forces advance, you can risk a friendly fire incident. Egress is the heading the aircraft will fly in the event of aborting the mission, and after completion of its designated task. This heading & altitude should be clear of hostile forces and major obstacles. This will allow the aircraft the quickest route back to friendly forces in the event of taking fire. Type of Mark Unmarked Lazer Smoke IR Strobe Fire Remarks The remarks section is to be used as necessary, however when calling in CAS, you will use the remarks section to request the ordinance needed to destroy the target. CASEVAC (Casualty Evacuation), MEDEVAC (Medical Evacuation), & Transport If using Type-1 Control you MUST clear a route from an initial point, to the LZ which must be a minimum of 500M from troops in contact, with cover for aviation assets into and out of the LZ. If at any time the LZ, or ingress becomes hot, you must abort and have the aircraft execute the egress procedure. Broken Arrow situations may be called by the AOO, or a ground unit. It is reserved for mass casualty situations where the chain of command has degraded to a point of little or no communication. It is advised that anyone calling a Broken Arrow keep in mind that it often results in friendly fire in a result to halt an enemy advance. When a call is made for Broken Arrow aviation assets may use any and all ordinance in order to stop further advance of hostiles. Skip to 2:15 (Graphic Descriptions @ end) https://youtu.be/HBDlZADZ4TM?t=137\ When Calling a Broken arrow you skip the sign on process and declare your emergency directly over the Aviation net of 60, and you relay ALL FRIENDLY POSITIONS, you then establish a free fire line it is recommended that this line be within 100m of friendly forces to create a buffer of bombs and bullets between you and the enemy. From there the AOO will facilitate the usage of ordinance so you can focus on re-establishing chain of command. Staff Shops (S-Shops) Staff Shops are our administration branches that support the administrative, operational and logistical needs of the unit. They contain several Duty Military Occupational Specialties (DMOS) within them which cater for specific needs of the unit from server maintenance to recruiting & retention. 2-4.A S1 - Personnel S-1 is the Personnel Branch that manages the Recruiting & Retention of personnel within the 3rd Infantry Division. It’s run by the Personnel Officer who is normally a Captain (O-3). Personnel Officers Duties Oversee Evaluation Reports - To make sure they are accurate and turned in on time. The S1 ensures the OER and NCOERs are done, proofread for errors, conducted and processed to the soldier's personnel file. Manage the Battalion Awards Program - They make sure that the unit's awards program in place, that soldiers are getting recognized, that the awards are in compliance with the pertinent regulations, and that they are processed in a timely manner. Advise the Battalion Commander on Personnel issues. - A good S1 keeps the “old man” informed about personnel issues, specifically “personal” issues such as family issues, or anything else that the Battalion Commander might need to get involved in. Establish Policies and procedures concerning personnel issues - They write SOPs and policy letters about anything human resources related. Plan and oversee Unit Social Events - The S1 ensures that all events, such as ceremonies, retirement farewell, Pub a thons are done correctly, in accordance with the Commander’s intent. Oversee and manage Personnel Records - Ensures each company manages its records the right way and they manage some files at battalion level. Supervise all NCOs and soldiers within the S1 Section, normally 3-15 soldiers - The S1 normally has one or OIC/NCOIC working directly for them, along with a few other NCOs and soldiers. Recruiting and Retention Office - Maintains Battalion recruitment programs, works closely with S2(PAO) on recruitment drives, and oversees all Recruiters(79R) to ensure all processes of job functions are in compliance. 2-4.B S2 - Intelligence S-2 is the Intelligence Branch that manages the Collection, Analysis and Coordination of information for utilization by combat elements within the 3rd Infantry Division. It’s run by the Intelligence Officer who is normally a Captain (O-3). Intelligence Officer’s Duties Planning Intelligence Operations - It is the duty of the S2 Army officer to plan intelligence collection operations. S2 officers have several resources for the job. Satellites and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) capture image intelligence. Signal Intelligence Collectors capture enemy radio communications. Common Ground Station (CGS) Analysts use radar to track enemy vehicles and Human Intelligence Collectors question enemy combatants and civilians. The S2 determines which collection tool is best for the job and implements it accordingly. S2 officers also obtain information from sources in other Army units. For example, it is not uncommon for an S2 to use information gathered from infantry patrols and field artillery Fire and radar systems to round out the battlefield picture. Disseminating Intelligence Information - Collecting intelligence is only half of the battle. S2s also have a duty to disseminate intelligence to the relevant decision makers of the unit. After intelligence is collected, soldiers on the S2’s staff analyze it and generate reports. One of the most important documents that the S2 staff generates is the Intelligence Preparation of the Battlefield (IPB) report. The IPB report provides an ongoing assessment of the location and capabilities of enemy forces, the disposition of friendly forces and potential areas of security weaknesses. This report is submitted regularly to the commanding officer, executive officer and S3 (operations) officer. These officers use the IPB to determine future operational missions and training exercises. Analyzing the Area of Operations -The S2 has a duty to not only gather information about enemy forces, he must also gather information about the unit’s area of operation (AO). Understanding the AO where the unit lives and works is crucial for the safety of all soldiers. This analysis includes understanding the local terrain, weather, civilian population and infrastructure. This information can also be passed along to other units. All AO data is kept in an intelligence database that is maintained by the S2 staff. 2-4.C S3 - Operations S-3 is the Operations Branch that manages the Training, Planning & Readiness of the 3rd Infantry Division. It’s run by the Operations Officer who is normally a Major (O-4). Operation Officer’s Duties Training - Force Improvement Group work closely with S3 to create lists of tasks that both individuals and the unit should be able to perform. They use this list when grading unit performances during exercises as in battle drills during pre mobilization before deployment. Operational Planning - Writes the standard operating procedures (SOP) for situations that may come up during combat. They also generate the orders for specific combat actions such as directing a subordinate company to secure a hill. Finally, S3s evaluate performance in the form of After Action Reports. Unit Readiness - Readiness is comprised of more than just administrative functions, the S3 should be concerned about training readiness as well as complete the big picture. 2-4.D S4 - Logistics S-4 is the Logistics Branch that manages the Training, Planning & Readiness of the 3rd Infantry Division. It’s run by the Operations Officer who is normally a Captain (O-3). Logistics Officer Duties Planning Unit Movements - Oversees and plan convoys, and administration / tactical movements which includes resources and coordinating. Managing the Budget - Track spending on what the unit pays for and how much funding is needed each month, manage monthly donations/ raffle drawings and make sure the unit fund were balanced and kept the Battalion Commander briefed as to what was going one. Advise the Commander on Logistical issues - These include server performance and server maintenance being conducted weekly/ monthly. Base Maintenance - Oversees profile request updates, server management on a day to day basis (restarting servers, maintaining configuration files, updating servers) and managing the Map Development Team. Combat & Image Documentation - Oversees uniform requests and ensure monthly inspections are being completed by unit leaders (Squad Leaders/ Platoon Sergeant) on subordinate units for uniforms are in compliance.
