For valorous actions while engaged with enemy forces during Mission Trident in support of 1st Platoon. Corporal MacTavish distinguished himself through exceptional courage and composure under direct enemy fire while serving as the driver for the Platoon Sergeant’s vehicle during the assault to secure Cavalry Hill. During intense combat operations, the vehicle sustained no less than three direct hits from enemy RPG fire, causing severe damage and placing all personnel at extreme risk. Despite the immense danger and deteriorating condition of the vehicle, Corporal MacTavish continued to maneuver and position the vehicle precisely in accordance with the Platoon Sergeant’s orders. His actions enabled Platoon Headquarters to effectively provide suppressive fire in support of 1st Squad during their final assault on the hilltop objective. Through his steadfast determination, bravery under fire, and unwavering commitment to mission accomplishment, Corporal MacTavish directly contributed to the successful seizure of Cavalry Hill. His valorous actions reflect great credit upon himself, 1st Platoon, and the Third Infantry Division.

Since assuming his role as RTO, Corporal MacTavish has demonstrated to platoon leadership and the rest of 1st Platoon a willingness to do whatever it takes to help the platoon accomplish any mission. Even during challenging missions, the Corporal remained focused on the mission, calling in resupply and re-inserting even under heavy fire. Through his actions and his commitment to continually improving his skills as an RTO, the Corporal demonstrated his dedication and loyalty to 1st Platoon and the 3rd Infantry Division.
