During Shaping Operation 1 of Operation Wet Feet PFC Martinez along with myself and one other soldier were the only ones in the squad left who were combat effective. The platoon was assaulting a fortified enemy position on top of a forested hill. The entire advance had been stalled by an enemy bunker and all but one squad were suffering mass casualties. The PFC and myself managed to make a push to the top of the hill and neutralise the bunker, thus relieving pressure from the rest of the platoon. At which point we started getting a trickle of our own reinforcements from the squad, as the Squad medic was slowly getting everyone back to fighting shape. The PFC managed to keep the defensive line organised, while I was busy coordinating with other elements, long enough for the rest of our squad to push up and for us to make a final offensive push onto the enemy barracks. The performance during the mission was at a level above what I expect from one in his position and thus should be recognised for his actions.
