Record Text
Operation Wet Feet: Mission Hurricane - During the last stand in defensive positions in the forests near the town of Morton, Phoenix Squad and units from Second Platoon suffered multiple casualties. At the point of being overrun by the enemy platoons that were assaulting their position, Private Meyer held his ground alongside Staff Sergeant Fives. The soldier applied effective rapid fire upon enemy forces for 5 to 10 minutes, giving the opportunity to extract the casualties out of the combat environment. Belt after Belt, Private Meyer held the position and relocated whenever needed to maintain his cover from enemy fire and apply suppressive fire towards the enemy contact. Soldiers from both second and first platoon sustained massive casualties. They were trying to give medical attention and extract the wounded while waves of enemy troops were engaging them from the front, right, and left flank. And there was Private Meyer, keeping the enemy in check with constant suppressive fire, moving back only when the wounded were being moved as well. What seemed to be a lost battle turned into a successful retreat. As a result of his actions, all casualties received the chance to be evacuated and their lives were saved. Therefore, I recommend Private Second Class Meyer for the Army Achievement Medal with C Device.
