Record Text
On 21 June, during Mission “Hurricane” of Operation Wet Feet, SGT M. Marsh, under the direction of his Platoon Sergeant, led his squad into enemy fire to reinforce the heavily engaged 1st Platoon, 4th Squad. Upon arrival, SGT Marsh positioned his squad to establish a buffer line, enabling 4th Squad to safely withdraw and treat their wounded personnel. Through effective fire control and leadership, he directed his squad’s fires onto enemy positions, forcing the enemy back into the treeline and relieving pressure on friendly forces. Once contact subsided, SGT Marsh pushed forward with SFC Fitzgerald into a previously occupied enemy trench line to secure the position and allow 4th Squad time to reorganize. After SFC Fitzgerald was rendered unconscious and enemy fire temporarily lifted, SGT Marsh assumed additional leadership responsibilities, directing the recapture of captured enemy positions and coordinating fires against enemy battle positions. Under his leadership, Warlocks inflicted significant casualties on enemy forces and destroyed multiple armored vehicles despite sustaining numerous casualties of their own, including SGT Marsh himself. SGT Marsh protected his medic solely while fighting off enemies to get them to his medic. After a casualty collection point was established, SGT Marsh, while being wounded and bleeding out, recognized Warlocks were taking casualties and enemies were pushing the defensive positions. SGT Marsh pushed the enemies off the bodies of friendly troops. After killing the enemies he would pick up the several wounded and carry them to the CCP that was established choosing his fellow squad members over his own personal well being. SGT Marsh would guide the incoming soldiers to the contact to protect the CCP. During that time 4th squad troops were sustaining heavy casualties as well. SGT Marsh rescued 4 members of their squad, loading them in the vehicles where they could be evacuated. When ordered to break contact, SGT Marsh executed the withdrawal flawlessly, ensuring the safe extraction of friendly forces under pressure while almost bleeding out himself before linking up with platoon HQ after the entire fight was over. Through his courage, leadership, and unwavering dedication under fire, SGT Marsh directly contributed to the preservation of combat power and the successful defeat of a numerically superior enemy force.

With his transfer from 1st Platoon to 2nd Platoon, SGT Marsh was handed an extremely difficult task as a brand-new Squad Leader within the platoon, despite having no prior recon knowledge. Since taking over, he has built a healthier and more effective culture within the platoon by bringing positive energy, a strong foundation, and a refreshed approach to NCO development. While also serving in leadership roles within FIG, SGT Marsh has consistently mentored and guided members of his squad, using his experience to strengthen both individual soldiers and the team as a whole. He developed squad SOPs that allow the squad to continue operating effectively even in his absence. Under his leadership, Warlocks have made a complete turnaround in both culture and combat effectiveness, something Platoon leadership has taken clear notice of. In addition to his impact on his squad, SGT Marsh has helped shape leadership perspectives within HQ and across the platoon as a whole. SGT Marsh worked directly with platoon leadership, helping make SOPs digestible for the lower enlisted. SGT Marsh's influence extends far beyond the Soldiers directly under his charge. Through exceptional leadership, mentorship, and dedication to the development of both Soldiers and NCOs, he has significantly improved the effectiveness, cohesion, and professionalism of 2nd Platoon. His integrity, willpower, courage, and mental fortitude make him exceptionally deserving of the Army Commendation Medal.

In the time when their SL has been occupied with other commitments (IRL Medical Training) for the better part of two months, both FTLs of 2nd squad have stepped up to the occasion, making sure the gap won’t be felt by both the platoon and the squad, ensuring the platoon stays on top of its assignments during the deployment, as well as taking care of the day-to-day tasks of managing a squad. This admirable thinking and taking action is above and beyond what is expected of FTLs with their time in the position. Their actions were selfless, full of valor and pride to both the squad, platoon, and company, which are key values of any NCO in the unit.
