The anniversary of D-Day serves as a reminder of one of the most consequential military operations in modern history. On June 6, 1944, Allied forces launched a massive assault on the coast of Normandy, France, beginning the campaign that would help bring an end to World War II in Europe.

Known as Operation Overlord, D-Day involved troops from the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, and other Allied nations. More than 150,000 soldiers crossed the English Channel and landed on five heavily defended beaches, code named Utah, Omaha, Gold, Sword, Juno facing intense enemy fire and difficult conditions. The operation required years of planning and unprecedented coordination among Allied forces.

The invasion also came at a tremendous cost. Thousands of Allied troops were killed, wounded, or missing by the end of the first day. Their sacrifices, along with those made throughout the war, continue to be remembered as part of a broader struggle against tyranny and oppression.

Today, the legacy of D-Day remains relevant as nations reflect on the importance of preserving peace, protecting freedom, and learning from the lessons of history. More than eight decades later, the events of June 6, 1944, continue to stand as a defining moment in the fight for liberty and the future of Europe.
