Sergeant George Nagy

Sergeant (SGT) George Nagy began his distinguished service with the 3rd Infantry Division on October 8, 2023, as a Fireteam Member in Alpha Company, Second Platoon, First Squad. Demonstrating natural leadership and commitment to excellence, he advanced to Assistant Squad Leader and later to Squad Leader by February 2025, where he currently leads First Squad with exceptional discipline and tactical proficiency.

Throughout his service, SGT Nagy has held a wide range of critical roles. He served with distinction as an Aviation Crew Chief and Air Traffic Control Operator within the 2nd Battalion, 3rd General Support Aviation Battalion and 3rd Combat Aviation Detachment Headquarters, ensuring safe and effective air operations. His multifaceted skillset also led him to contribute significantly in multiple DMOS roles: as a 46Q - Journalist and 46S - Anchor in S6 - Public Affairs, and as 79X - Non-Commissioned Officer in Charge (NCOIC) in S1 - Recruiting and Retention.

Tell us a little about yourself?

• I'm a 29-year-old conductor for a freight railroad. I have 2 kids and a lovely wife. When I'm not doing stuff with the unit, I enjoy hanging out with my kids, reading, painting Warhammer 30k models and playing some other video games in my free time as well. Traveling I enjoy a lot as well, I've been to 46 states, 3 Canadian provinces, and around 15 other foreign countries.

Why did you join 3rdID, and what keeps you here?

• My buddy Borovetski introduced me to the unit, I joined for squad drills with him, enjoyed it and signed up after. I stay here cause I have a lot of fun and enjoy all the different people I get to meet.

Any favorite/funny/memorable moment throughout your whole time in the unit?

• My favorite moment by far is when SSG Fitzgerald was awarded Soldier of the Quarter. 1LT Vandle allowed him to give a speech. Fitzgerald proceeded to thank myself and a few other people in the unit as well as Reiley Reid, for our help in getting him to where he is. That was pretty funny.

Any advice to give to your fellow soldiers to help them in their careers here?

• Stay persistent and do good work in your DMOS. If you don't have a DMOS, go get one. S1 is hiring.

What army value is the most important to you and why?

• Duty. It’s not about glory or recognition, it’s about showing up and getting it done, no matter what. It’s steady. It’s consistent. It’s what keeps teams strong, missions moving, and trust intact. It's the foundation of all the other values because if you don’t do your part, nothing else works.

What motivates you to keep pushing forward in the unit, and do you have any goals for the future within the unit?

• Earning more responsibility, having a greater impact on my team, and setting the standard for others to follow. My immediate goal is to get promoted to Staff Sergeant and from there who knows.

Any valuable lessons you have learned while being in the unit?

• Patience, you can never have enough of it.

What's your favorite thing about the 3rd Infantry Division Realism Unit?

• My favorite thing is the camaraderie. I have friends from nearly every element, people I can go to with questions and lean on for support. In turn they can come to me with anything as well. It's very refreshing to have such high levels of camaraderie in an online space.
