Areas of Strength
- Platoon formations; moving in a large formation on foot to the staging point on the mountain top,
- Squads working together to tackle the objects; the platoon was split up into 2, 1 & 2 worked really well together to tackle OBJ Honeybee,
- PID; the chief was identified and managed to be captured alive.
Areas of Weakness
- First squad was lost due to a macro-management failure; a side-objective was underestimated which caused an MCI with nobody close enough to support,
- MCIs; the platoon was too careless in some occasions which caused MCIs,
- Staying in mortar fire; at the mountain camp, the platoon was under IDF, orders were given to start the next movement but it took too long for squads to start moving.
Suggested Improvements
3CAB needs to watch out not to shoot inside objectives during a capture HVT mission.
Mission Summary
The platoon started their day in Bissora, where a small US HQ was established. They moved on foot to a nearby hilltop that was used by the GSIM to keep eyes on the area. During the approach, the platoon ran into a minefield but it caused no serious issues due to mine detectors. The camp was used as a staging area for the main assault. 1 & 2 split off to assault OBJ Honeybee, and 3 & 4 were going to take OBJ Dragonfly to try and surprise the Chief.
Scorpions and Ghosts took out OBJ Honeybee. Scorpions ensured the escape route was blocked off and moved up the road to provide support by fire. OBJ Ghosts moved through the jungle and moved down onto the objective. The town was quite small, and an unauthorized 3CAB strike took out most of it anyway. Scorpions and Ghosts investigated the rubble but found no traces of the chief. They did however find a mortar emplacement to the west. Scorpions moved to assault the encampment while Ghosts moved south to assist Spartans and Phoenix with the assault of Dragonfly.
Comms with Scorpions were lost quickly after departing.
At the same time, Spartans and Phoenix assaulted OBJ Dragonfly. They came in from the east but had a hard time gaining ground. It wasn't until reinforcements from OBJ Honeybee arrived that major progress could be made. Ghosts found the Chief's compound, but the heavy defenses made it extremely difficult to move in. Ghosts suffered an MCI during the breach and the Chief ran with his tail between his legs in an armored car. Unfortunately due to battle noise he was able to leave the city and the hunt continued.
Not concerned with any lingering GSIM in the town, first platoon broke contact and moved through the jungle east, towards OBJ Moth. The Chief was seen heading in this direction so this was believed to be his new location. Widowmakers did not have the exact location of the chief so they planned to execute a frontal attack straight through the objective, west to east. Followed by an envelopment once the sides fell. During the envelopment, Phoenix was able to locate the Chief. The Chief was thrown into his armored car and hauled out of the objective with minor battle wounds.
The team that extracted the Chief came back with Stryker support, which was just in time to assist with a GSIM counter attack. The platoon peeled back to the HQ and the Stryker assisted in moving the wounded out of the area, while the rest fought their way out.
The mission was hectic, chaotic, but successful. And with a better end than Thin Ice, this time, the main target was extracted alive.
