Situation
Last week, Prime minister of Lithuania Rolandas Šimonytė was abducted near the major city of Kaaranmännikkö, our satellites were able to track multiple vehicles leaving the AO and going to an area next to the border with the Kaliningrad oblast. Most likely, one of those vehicles was transporting the Prime Minister. Knowing this, Alpha Company "War Eagles", First Platoon "Widowmakers" was redeployed to a new AO.
- Over the past week, NATO forces have detected increased insurgent activity in the new AO. Separatist radio traffic has nearly tripled, with new communications nodes detected at the Jankos Industrial Area (OBJ Mailfoot) and Kouras Metal complex (OBJ Papago). It is likely that the Russian separatists have been preparing their positions near FOB Border Fox.
- Last night, a local police patrol came under fire from the Jankos Industrial Area. A responding Lithuanian National Police helicopter was damaged by ground fire and retreated. The National Police called the Lithuanian Army, which in turn sent an Mi-24 to interdict targets in the area. It fired at several contacts in the industrial area but was also damaged by ground fire and returned to base. At that point, the Army called NATO.
- The industrial facility is equipped to produce a variety of organic compounds, including explosives, making it a valuable target for insurgents. It is possible that the employees may be working for separatists in the complex voluntarily or under duress. Limitations of the use of explosives is advised.
- Early this morning, a Lithuanian Army drone captured IR footage of armed men digging in the woods east of the Jankos Industrial Area. It is possible the contacts were placing IEDs, mines, or other booby traps.
- Remigijus Gailius, mayor of Hööpakka (OBJ Yuma), is reportedly supportive of the NATO mission in Lithuania and wants to speak with the US Commander. He claims his village is all ethnic Lithuanian, and they are tired of the trouble the Russians have caused. He has organized an armed watch from men in the area and wants to assist in the fight against separatists. The mayor lives on a farm on the east side of town, Grid 050 035.
- Note that it is planting season, and civilian noncombatants are very active in the area. The population is predominantly rural. Check vehicle driver/passengers for ROE. Warning shots are appropriate if a speeding vehicle closes within 100m, but Soldiers do not always need to shoot to kill. Some civilians are still getting used to our presence. Roadside IEDs are anticipated, but mobile VBIEDs are not!
Mission
This week, we need to patrol multiple objectives to find proof or intelligence to track down the prime minister and dismantle Russian Separatists in the area.
The order of the objective is to be selected by platoon leadership.
- Obj Mailfoot : Located in the Jankos Industrial Area, this objective need to be patrolled and verified.
- Obj Papago : The area near the Kouras metal plant.
- Obj Lordsburg : A small farm with multiple hangars able to hide vehicles or equipment.
- Obj Yuma : An important village in the area, we need to investigate if there is possible Russian separatist hiding there.
- Obj Hedglen : Multiple hangars able to hide vehicles or equipment.
