Arma Reforgers: What the future has in store for us.

Launched in May 2022, Arma Reforger marked Bohemia Interactive’s ambitious step toward the future of the Arma franchise. Built on the new Enfusion engine, it was conceived as both a playable preview and a technological testbed for Arma 4. Set during the Cold War on the fictional island of Everon, Reforger offered players a stripped-down yet visually striking experience that emphasized authenticity, sandbox gameplay, and modular design.

Early reception was mixed—praised for its visuals, sound design, and realistic infantry mechanics, yet criticized for its lack of content and technical instability. Still, its importance lay not in scale, but in direction. Over time, steady updates refined its engine, AI behavior, and network performance, while expanding player tools and introducing the Conflict and Game Master modes that encouraged emergent gameplay.

The true heartbeat of Arms Reforger emerged in its modding community. Bohemia’s Workbench tools allowed creators to build and publish new maps, assets, and total conversions directly to the in-game Workshop, revitalizing the mod scene that has always defined Arma. This ecosystem helped bridge casual players and hardcore milsim groups, with Reforger serving as a live testing ground for tactics, roleplay systems, and realism mods.

Today, Arms Reforger stands as both a proving ground and a promise—a foundation for what Arma 4 will become. Its continued evolution reflects the balance between Bohemia’s experimentation and its community’s relentless creativity.

But what does that mean for us as a unit? Be aware that this is my personal opinion, not subjective. I personally am happy to take this step. Arma 3 is a fine game. It has so many mods that make it a spectacular experience. KAT medical, ACE, Hatchet, AH-64 official version, and many more are deeply engraved into Arma 3 that I find it almost impossible to play without these mods. But it is an old game, and you feel that in the physics, graphics, sound and general mechanics. Arma Reforger is new, fancy, has great graphics and sound, the mechanics are better than in Arma 3 in my opinion. But the most important thing is that the Mod scene is steadily growing and expanding and each day we are nearing the implementation of the aforementioned mods into Reforger.

My experience before the announcement was purely PvP and I despise that part of the game. My frames were at a constant 10 with lowest settings, I couldn't fight even if I wanted to. So I was really sceptical about moving to Reforger. But a few games of PvE and I changed my mind. The frames aren't so bad when I'm not cramped in a 100x100 square with 100 players, and my frames on my admittedly potato PC reached 40 with a squad sized element in my surrounding. The soundscape however is what sways me over to Reforger. I have never been more immersed in a Game purely due to sound than in Reforger. It is phenomenal.

Of course we will have a few hard months in reforger. We are up against units with many many players in the voting side, we need to iron out the kinks of Arms Reforger and we need to make sure everything is going smoothly. But that is what our FTC is for. And the benefits vastly outmatch the rest. Yes, we may not have mods like KAT medical, Hatchet H-60, ACE and so on directly when we start, but it is important to mention that the kids that are developed in Reforger will be usable directly in Arma 4. That in itself is a huge boon, as we won't have to wait extensively like now to get these mods for Arms 4. Next up is that Reforger is vastly more popular, meaning we will likely get more recruits for the unit. Videos over Reforger get a lot more publicity on YouTube, which again will help out Recruiting.

In my opinion the jump to Reforger is a good one. We will get likely more recruits while also getting familiar with the mechanics and play style of the next main line Arms game. A win in most cases, the only way that we loose in this jump is that Reforger doesn't have all the mods we use in Arma and that will be a big change for us.
