National Spirit of '45 Day, observed annually on August 14, honors the resilience and sacrifices of the generation affected by World War II. Communities across the country hold events and memorials to celebrate those who inspired, sacrificed, and preserved the nation for future generations. The day encourages us to explore and share the untold stories of this remarkable era, highlighting the efforts of servicemen, women, and civilians on the homefront.

During World War II, everyone contributed—servicemen fought abroad while civilians managed rationing, farm work, and factory production at home. The generation faced shortages of supplies like rubber and leather, often communicating through letters as technology advanced. Their sacrifices and innovations shaped a new era in manufacturing and technology, demonstrating a collective commitment to duty despite personal costs.

To observe Spirit of '45 Day, people are encouraged to connect with veterans, visit museums, learn about notable contributions like those of Betty Wason or the USO, and share stories on social media using #NationalSpiritOf45. The movement began with a project in 1996 to document veterans' memories and gained national recognition through endorsements by figures like Ernest Borgnine. In 2010, Congress officially commemorated this day to honor the enduring legacy of the Greatest Generation.
