Operation

Squad Drills

Squad Drills are in-game training sessions designed to enhance the skills and effectiveness of 3rd Infantry Division Realism Unit soldiers. These sessions are led by Squad Leaders, who develop and deliver weekly lessons focusing on soldiering fundamentals, tactical execution, and effective use of equipment.

Training Topics

Drills cover a wide range of subjects essential to infantry operations, including:

  • Tactical formations and movement
  • Battle Drills
  • Convoy operations
  • Radio communications
  • Medical aid
  • Military Operations in Urban Terrain (MOUT)
  • Close-Quarters Battle (CQB)

Fireteam Leaders support their Squad Leader by assisting in the presentation and leadership of these training exercises as needed.

Training Schedule and Format

Squad Drills take place on one of 3ID’s dedicated Arma 3 Training Servers, typically using blank templates to simulate realistic scenarios. Soldiers form up in the server every Saturday at 1430 EST and step off promptly at 1500 EST.

During these sessions, under the guidance of their Squad Leader, Fireteam Leaders, and Members work collaboratively to improve their offensive and defensive combat capabilities. The training not only sharpens tactical skills but also fosters discipline, cohesion, timeliness, and stress management—all crucial for success in 3ID operations.

Impact on Performance

Squad Drills directly translate to improved performance during operations. Squads that commit to regular training are better equipped to adapt to and overcome tactical challenges in the field. This structured approach to skill development ultimately supports the 3ID’s mission to close with and destroy the enemy, ensuring success in combat scenarios.

By dedicating time to these drills, soldiers strengthen their individual abilities and collective teamwork, building a foundation for operational excellence within the unit.
