    Areas of Strength

Despite the number of the squad today, 4th squad "Phoenix" was able to operate independently and achieve in carrying out the orders and tasks that were assigned to us.

    Areas of Weakness

Aggressiveness to push forward when a member of the squad is down.  This is not due to lack of training but due to the lack of man power for this specific mission. Since only 5 members came in for the operation, having a man down is seen as a substantial loss on the squad's combat capability which resulted to 4th squad "Phoenix" having necessary and unnecessary holds prior to pushing when the squad strength is up.

    Suggested Improvements

Having 1 squad commandeering all the Styrkers was very effective combat-wise as each member knew how they operate and communicate with one another successfully since they are used to working with each other as a squad. The drawback is that other squads who usually rely on theirs Strykers to resupply in the field no longer has the ability to do so due to the tactic that was used today.   This has already been addressed by Platoon leadership that offering a similar but different approach to the tactic that was used to day which mitigates the issue.

    Mission Summary

The platoon rolled out on a vehicle convoy towards the northern objective as we moved together in parallel with the Canadian 2nd Mechanized Brigade Group from the West.  4th squad "Phoenix" stepped off the Stryker convoy at the breaking point in the town of Zhuzhelka to move with 1st squad "Scorpions" on foot and platoon Stryker at the back of the formation towards the northern forest as 3rd squad "Spartans" held the northern part of the town to setup a support by fire position.

As the assaulting elements were on their way to their assault position, we took contact from enemy forces who were in the northern woods alerting the Russian 1st guards tank army.  The assaulting elements quickly returned fire an assaulted and cleared the enemy bunkers in the woods.  After treating the casualties, the assaulting elements quickly went and pushed to the assaulting position.

As the assaulting elements advanced, the vehicles on the SBF positions shifted their fire towards TRP3 to allow the assaulting elements to proceed, assault, and clear the southern part of OBJ Post Maul.  In this process, CPL S.Kidon was able to neutralize 1x enemy tank and SPC R.Sjordal neutralizing 1x enemy BTR.

4th squad was then tasked to clear out the South West of the objective where a BMP was suppressing the assaulting elements.  Due to 4 squad being out of anti armor capabilities, another squad had to engage the BMP as it suppressed 4th squad effectively.

When the BMP was dealt with, 4th squad "Phoenix" was able to press on forward finding more bunkers and another enemy tank.  The squad was able to clear out the bunker lead by CPL S.Kidon but became a casualty when the enemy tank spotted them and opened fire inside the bunker.  As 4th Squad Phoenix not having the capability to eliminate the tank, we had to be re-enforced by 3rd squad together with SSG C.Winters to eliminate it.  But knowing that the soldiers were bleeding out inside the bunker, Major J.LaFlash, Phoenix Mike and I and went for the casualties to treat them.  But due to close quarters combat, the squad medic also became a casualty therefore Major J.LaFlash and I were left alternating to treat the wounded and providing each other security until 3rd Squad and SSG C.Winters was able to re-enforce us and eliminate the enemy tank.

After reconsolidating with the rest of the squad, 4th squad was then tasked to take charge of the north west security with a Stryker.  We then pushed up further north to support the squads eliminating all threats that were trying to get to the whole platoon.

Upon linking up with the rest of the platoon, we then pushed further north to clear out a compound but as 4th squad phoenix was pushing on open terrain, a MI-24 unexpectedly appeared on the West which produced casualties that held 4th squad from assaulting together with 1st squad.  I personally fire a stinger towards the enemy hind but was unsuccessful on taking it down until a 2nd stinger missile hit it and incapacitated the enemy helicopter.  Upon the platoon medics being able to treat the casualties, 4th squad "Phoenix" pushed up together with the platoon medic towards the mass casualty situation due to a collapsed building.  4th squad then held the northern sector as the platoon medics and squad medics treated the wounded.

Upon reconsolidating with the platoon, we went back to resupply prior to pushing the Western objective "Rusted Sledge".  The platoon advance as a line together with the vehicles and soldiers on the ground.   Due to heavy direct and indirect enemy fire, the platoon took many casualties which took the lives of SGT E.Babol and CPL S.Kidon.  Through out the whole incident, the squad medic, SPC S.Wolf worked on his squad members and other squad members as well providing great medical care for the whole platoon and going to 31 to let platoon leadership know of our situation until the squad leader and 2IC were back to the fight.

eventually, 4th squad Phoenix reconsolidated and pushed towards the western object in parallel with the other squads to make a platoon line that advanced towards the objective.  CPL S.Kidon was then again able to eliminate 1x enemy tank  while the rest of the squad was able to eliminate countless of enemy foot soldiers while stopping enemy reinforcements and convoys that were coming from the northern sector.

After eliminating all threats, the platoon then reconsolidated and convoyed back to FOB Murphey for the debrief.
