    Squad Drills

Squad Drills are in-game training sessions for infantry soldiers.

Squad Leaders develop and teach weekly lessons on soldiering, tactics and use of equipment for drills. Topics include, among others, tactical formations and movement, Battle Drills, convoy operations, radio communications, medical aid, military operations in urban terrain (MOUT), close-quarters battle (CQB), etc. Fireteam Leaders assist their Squad Leader as needed in presenting and leading Drills.

These training sessions are held on one of 3ID’s Arma 3 Training Servers, typically using blank templates. Soldiers form up in-server Saturday @1430 EST and step off @1500 EST. Under the Squad Leader’s direction, Fireteam Leaders and Members train to improve offensive and defensive combat capabilities. This training builds Soldiers’ cohesion and performance in 3ID Operations. Drills also improve discipline, timeliness, and stress management through regular training. Development of these skill sets aids the unit in its immediate mission, i.e. to close with and destroy the enemy.

Squad Drills produce results in operations. Squads that regularly challenge themselves in drills are generally best suited to adapt to and overcome tactical challenges in the field.

    Deployable Units:

    • 2nd Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division "Spartans"
      • Alpha Company, First Battalion, 30th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Infantry Division
      • 3rd Combat Aviation Brigade, 3rd Infantry Division
    • Coalition Support elements (US Forces & Turkish Forces)

    Territory Name:

Turkey (Republic of Türkiye) is a NATO member state that sits as the western gateway to the Middle East. A large peninsula surrounded by the Mediterranean, Aegean, Marama, and Black Seas, its location gives the nation a strategic position in international affairs and global commerce. It also hosts the US military at numerous bases in-country, which allows for sustained strategic and tactical air and special operations across the Middle East. This includes a crucial segment of the NATO missile defense system.

The nation has several distinct regions with various terrains and climates. Çukurca District, located in the southeastern border region, is home to the Turkish 1st Mountain Battalion, 3rd Special Forces Division.

    Territory Intel:

For over four decades, Turkey has been engaged in sustained counter-insurgency operations against militants from the nation’s Kurdish minority, who seek independence from Turkish rule.

More recently, and after Turkish military incursions into Syria to diminish several jihadist cells’ combat power, ISIS and al Qaeda-affiliated international terrorist organization Hurras al-Din (HAD) independently began to conduct operations against military installations in Turkey itself. This includes complex attacks with rockets, mortars, dismounted infantry, and VBIEDs against a Turkish Air Force base in the nation’s Southeast Anatolia province. This came as a surprise to some in Ankara, who had observed ISIS and HAD both decrease the number of attacks each had carried out in Syria since October 2022.

2nd Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division "Spartans", Alpha Company, First Battalion 30th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Infantry Division & 3rd Combat Aviation Brigade, 3rd Infantry Division will be deployed near the the Turkey-Syria border, close to the Great Zab River.

3rdID will have to secure the general area where ISIS terrorists have been increasingly active and deadly. S-2 has confirmed that these local cells are supported by ISIS forces in Syria and are part of an enemy strategy to target NATO sites in Turkey.

    Territory Factcheck:

    (1) Terrain

Southeastern Turkey has very high mountains and a desertified landscape. It is dominated by sandy valleys, olive trees, and pine forests. In Çukurca, the majority of the population lives in the northern Çukurca Valley. The mountainous region to the south is home to small, scattered hill towns and winding dirt roads.

    (2) Weather

The Turkey-Syria border region is characterized by high heat and low precipitation. The Mediterranean Sea provides occasional rain and humidity, but the weather is typically harsh. In the high mountains, nighttime temperatures can approach freezing. Çukurca has a Köppen classification of a hot summer subtype of the humid continental climate.

Average temperatures in Çukurca are 0° C (32° F) in January and 34.5° C (94.1° F) in July. While summers are usually hot, winters can be very cold at high elevations.

Following a NATO request to all member states in early January 2023, the Department of Defense has ordered 3rdID’s 2IBCT to deploy to bases in southern Turkey to secure US and NATO personnel, facilities, and interests in the region. While defensive in nature, this mission set includes offensive operations as needed within Southeast Anatolia to diminish ISIS and HAD capabilities that would disrupt or destroy US and NATO assets and operations. Alpha Company will deploy no later than 30 April 2023 to FOB Eagle Eye near Çukurca, east of Incirlik Airbase, a major hub for US and NATO operations.

    5810034.jpg

The NATO mission comes in the aftermath of a 4.5 magnitude earthquake in the region, which has killed tens of thousands of people and made many more homeless. US forces are assisting with humanitarian operations to help victims of the disaster.

    Main Story Line:

2nd Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division "Spartans" will deploy 16 April 2023 to FOB Eagle Eye in the southeastern part of Turkey, where ISIS terrorists have threatened NATO assets. The border needs to be secured and terrorist operations must be destroyed.

Territory Name: Lithuania does not have high mountains and its landscape is dominated by blooming meadows, dense forests and fertile fields of cereals. However, it stands out by the abundance of hillforts, which previously had castles where the ancient Lithuanians burned altars for pagan gods. Lithuania is a particularly watered region with more than 3,000 lakes, mostly in the northeast. The country is also drained by numerous rivers, most notably the longest Nemunas. Lithuania is home to two terrestrial ecoregions: Central European mixed forests and Sarmatic mixed forests.

Territory Intel: 2nd Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division "Spartans", Alpha Company, First Battalion 30th Infantry Reg, 3rd Infantry Division & 3rd Combat Aviation Brigade, 3rd Infantry Division will be deployed near the Suwalki gap, close to the European Route E67. European route E 67 is an E-road running from Prague in the Czech Republic to Helsinki in Finland by way of Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia. It goes via Prague, Wrocław, Warsaw, Kaunas, Panevėžys, Riga, Tallinn and Helsinki.

First, 3rdID will have to secure a general area close to the Metsälä airfield where Russians separatists have been especially active and successful. Intel thinks that they are directly supported by the Russian from the Kaliningrad exclave. While no PMCs from the Wagner group were sighted, there is no doubt that they are training the separatists in the region.

    (2) Weather

Lithuania has a temperate climate with both maritime and continental influences. It is defined as humid continental under the Köppen climate classification (but is close to oceanic in a narrow coastal zone).

Average temperatures on the coast are −2.5 °C (27.5 °F) in January and 16 °C (61 °F) in July. In Vilnius the average temperatures are −6 °C (21 °F) in January and 17 °C (63 °F) in July. During the summer, 20 °C (68 °F) is common during the day while 14 °C (57 °F) is common at night; in the past, temperatures have reached as high as 30 or 35 °C (86 or 95 °F). Some winters can be very cold. −20 °C (−4 °F) occurs almost every winter. Winter extremes are −34 °C (−29 °F) in coastal areas and −43 °C (−45 °F) in the east of Lithuania.

    Background Timeline

Tensions with the USSR and then Russia have been there since 1947. Again, Russia is massing its forces next to our European allies. In an effort to destabilize the region, and most notably Ukraine, Russia has been sending PMCs from the Wagner group and been supporting Russian separatist in the region. While we cannot deploy to Ukraine, our allies from Lithuania are in the same situation and require help.

Lithuania, officially the Republic of Lithuania, is a country in the Baltic region of Europe. It is one of the three Baltic states and lies on the eastern shore of the Baltic Sea. Lithuania shares land borders with Latvia to the north, Belarus to the east and south, Poland to the south, and Kaliningrad Oblast of Russia to the southwest.

    XL_Icvdbb3rpjU77LdFoaXD_oQUsstedAJ6AvgHc

The Lithuania–Russia border is an international border between the Republic of Lithuania and Kaliningrad Oblast, an exclave of the Russian Federation. It is an external border of the European Union. In the case of a mass invasion, NATO command is scared that the Russian will take quick control of the border between Lithuania and Poland (The Suwalki Gap) by using troops in the Kaliningrad Oblast and Belarus.

    t0rK3BHXDzhBV7Zbos9oSVWaaPlMjVljaGd1PhW0

This border allows the Russians to supply their PMCs and Separatist fairly easily with heavy equipment. Lithuania has been in great danger recently and needs reinforcement. In case of a war, that border needs to be under control of NATO, so we can keep supplying our troops and allies in the Baltic states.

    Main Story Line

2nd Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division "Spartans" will be deployed in the southern part of Lithuania, where the tensions have been reported to be hitting new heights. The border needs to be secured, Russian separatists need to be stopped and PMCs from the Wagner group eliminated.

    Territory Name:
Poland covers roughly 312 700 km^2 and with a population of 38 million that gives it relatively mediocre population density when compared to other European countries.

    Territory Intel:
Western Poland, where we will be operating, provides a very nice and varied environment for training. The region has the distinct lowlands and small hills found across Europe, while still offering a mountainous region to the North. With an average elevation of 173 metres the temperature never gets too hot or too cold during the year.
Some exercises will be taking place close to the Tatra Mountain Range with its highest peak of Mount Rysy and a height of 2499 meters.
The terrain is heavy with farmland and relatively free of dense forests. This leads to longer average lines of sights and overall longer distance engagements. What civilian centers exist have been freed up for the exercise and even some have been constructed.

    Background Timeline

    January 2020
While the 2020 pandemic situation was in full swing the “Multinational Corps Northeast” decided that with lower civilian presence outside it would be a good opportunity to do some exercises in the region.

    October 2020
By October the first set of exercises was being conducted close to the German border, with a 4 way coalition force of Polish, Romanian, US and British soldiers. The training exercise proved very successful and it was decided to extend its length into 2021 and possibly 2022.

    ftx-1.jpg

    February 2021
Since February 2021 First Battalion 30th Infantry Reg, 3rd Infantry Division and 3rd Mechanized Battalion, 12th Brigade, 12th Mechanized Division have been rotating companies in the joint Exercise known as Yellow Carrot, allegedly named by a squad of British commandos during the first week of the exercise in October 2020.

    September 2021
“A small border crossing incident happened close to the region of Roche, where a US motorized convoy crossed into Germany and occupied a small village for 2 hours before local police showed up and tried to mediate the situation. Unfortunately 2LT P.Dick of the 3rd Infantry Division was not being cooperative as he was sure this was his objective. After 3 hours of further negotiation and calls the mistake was cleared up. The German government has promised to help out it’s NATO friends and provide 1000 new German compasses to the United States Army Officer Corps.”
-This was an extract from a Polish newspaper from a few months ago. All coalition forces are advised to keep track of their positions and not needlessly cross into Germany during Exercise Yellow Carrot.

Territory Name: Mopti is the fifth administrative region of Mali, covering 79,017 km2. Its capital is the city of Mopti. During the 2012 Northern Mali conflict, the frontier between Southern Mali which is controlled by the central government and the rebel-held North ran through the Mopti Region.

Territory Intel: Mopti is the fifth administrative region of Mali. The population in the 2009 census was 2,037,330. The region contains a number of ethnic groups, including Bozo, Songhai, Dogon, Fulani, Malinke, and Bambara.
The Niger River crosses the region, and is joined by the Bani, an important tributary, at the city of Mopti.
The region is separated into several areas: the Inland Niger Delta around Mopti, the Bandiagara cliffs and the plain of Bankass along the Burkina Faso frontier. Mount Hombori, the highest point in Mali at 1153 meters, is in the Mopti Region, near the city of the same name.
The Mopti region is known to be one of the last strong bastions of African terrorist groups. With its dense jungle, empty flat desert area and mountain plateau, the diversity of the terrain makes it a difficult terrain to navigate and fight on. Many small villages are dispersed all around the area, making it a perfect place to hide assets. It will be like looking for a needle in a haystack.

2nd Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division "Spartans" will be deployed in the Agadez region first. In order to help and consolidate the Agadez Airbase. Once the Airbase is out of danger, 3rd Infantry Division “Spartans” will be redeployed to the Mopti region in order to secure the region.

    Background Timeline

Early 1990s: War of independence for northern Mali

In the early 1990s Tuareg and Arab nomads formed the People's Movement for the Liberation of Azawad (MPA) and declared war for independence of the northern part of Mali.

Despite peace agreements with the government of Mali in 1991 and 1995 a growing dissatisfaction among the former Tuareg fighters, who had been integrated into the Military of Mali, led to new fighting in 2007.

Despite historically having difficulty maintaining alliances between secular and Islamist factions the National Movement for the Liberation of Azawad allied itself with the Islamist groups Ansar Dine and Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb and began the 2012 Northern Mali conflict.

    image.png

January - April 2012: Tuareg Rebellion

From January to April 2012, a war was waged against the Malian government by rebels with the goal of attaining independence for the northern region of Mali, known as Azawad.

It was led by the National Movement for the Liberation of Azawad (MNLA) and was part of a series of insurgencies by traditionally nomadic Tuaregs which date back at least to 1916.

The MNLA was formed by former insurgents and a significant number of heavily armed Tuaregs who fought in the Libyan Civil War.

    June - November 2012: Islamist-nationalist conflict

Both the Islamists and MNLA formed an alliance in combating the Malian government. An internal conflict sprung up over the imposing of sharia law in the new state and the MNLA is distancing itself from the coalition to a democratic state.

Islamists gained popularity amongst anti-Tuareg tribes that helped it overthrow MNLA authority in Gao. Both sides clashed repeatedly leading to the Battle of Gao, where the MNLA was driven from the North's two main cities, Gao and Timbuktu.

The MNLA soon lost all of its strongholds in the North in a matter of months.

    image.png

    January 2013: Foreign Intervention

Following requests from both the Mali government and ECOWAS for foreign military intervention, on 12 October 2012 the United Nations Security Council unanimously, under Chapter VII of the United Nations Charter, passed a French resolution approving an African-led force to assist the army of Mali in combating the Islamist militants.

The resolution gave 45 days for "detailed and actionable recommendations" for a military intervention which would be drafted by ECOWAS and the African Union, with a figure of 3,000 proposed troops reported.

Islamist and Tuareg forces were reported to have retreated to the Adrar des Ifoghas, rugged badlands in northeastern Mali. Knowledge of and control over local sources of water is expected to play a vital role in the continuing conflict in that area.

    •  The conflict began it’s Guerrilla phase.
    • A peace deal between the government and Tuareg rebels was signed on 18 June 2013.

September 2013: End of the ceasefire

The MNLA ended the ceasefire in September of the same year after government forces opened fire on unarmed protesters.
Following the attack, MNLA vice-president Mahamadou Djeri Maiga remarked: "What happened is a declaration of war. We will deliver this war. Wherever we find the Malian army we will launch the assault against them. It will be automatic. The warnings are over."
One of the MNLA's founders, Attaye Ag Mohamed, was also quoted as saying that the "political and military wings of the Azawad" had declared "the lifting of the ceasefire with the central government"
In the first half of 2018, there was an increase in rebel attacks. As of July 2018, northern Mali was largely out of government control.

2021: French withdrawal from the Mopti region and the Agadez attack.

The situation in central Africa has been tense for the last 20 years, War chiefs and rebels have been fighting over territories, contesting the local forces and authorities. Worse, a lot of those War Chiefs and rebels became terrorist Islamist groups, pledging allegiance to Al-Qaïda or ISIS. France tried to help Sahel’s countries, but with a high number of losses and a conflict everlasting, they quickly lowered the numbers of deployed personnel there, leaving a vast area out of control.

    image.png

The US has a history of having troops deployed in Africa, but mostly on the “Horn of Africa”, in Somalia and in Djibouti. Nevertheless, the United States helped France during operation Barkhane, offering no less than 800 US military personnel to work toward building a drone base in Agadez, and also deployed Green Berets to train local armies.

With the withdrawal of French troops, the local terrorist groups got a boost in confidence, launching an armed assault on the not-yet finished drone base of Agadez, killing 15 US personnel in the attack. Drone Reports also state that at least 2 US personnel have been taken hostage and have been sent to central Mali.

US President Joe Biden, freshly introduced into his mandate, stated that this attack is an attack against the United States, and toward a free world. Needless to say that the 46th president needs to affirm his position with this attack, and cannot stay passive. He ordered the deployment of a force in central Africa, and negotiated an area of operation in central Mali, where the now withdrawn french forces were previously deployed.

The Secretary of Defense dispatched more resources to the U.S. AFRICOM, and tasked it to enter direct combat with local Islamist and rebel groups, including Al-Qaïda, ISIS and Boko Haram. General Stephen J. Townsend said that “the life of the two hostages is of utmost importance and saving them is a top priority”. He also stated that terrorist groups in the area will be hunted in order to free the population of the actions of local terrorist groups.

2nd Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division "Spartans" will be deployed in the Mopti region, where the two hostages were last sighted. The Report also states the presence of multiple leaders of different Islamist groups. With the weakening foreign military presence in the region, Al-Qaïda and ISIS made a truce.

The Mopti region is known to be one of the last strong bastions of African terrorist groups. With its dense jungle and empty flat desert area, the duality of the terrain makes it a difficult terrain to navigate and fight on. Many small villages are dispersed all around the area, making it a perfect place to hide assets. It will be like looking for a needle in a haystack.

The Hindu Kush served as a geographical barrier to the British empire, leading to paucity of information and scarce direct interaction between the British colonial officials and Central Asian peoples. The British had to rely on tribal chiefs, Sadozai and Barakzai noblemen for information, and they generally downplayed the reports of slavery and other violence for geo-political strategic considerations
In the colonial era, the Hindu Kush were considered, informally, the dividing line between Russian and British areas of influence in Afghanistan. During the Cold War the Hindu Kush range became a strategic theatre, especially during the 1980s when Soviet forces and their Afghan allies fought the Mujahideen with support from the US allies channeled through Pakistan. After the Soviet withdrawal and the end of the Cold War, many Mujahideen morphed into Taliban and Al Qaeda forces imposing a strict interpretation of Islamic law (Sharia), with Kabul, these mountains and other parts of Afghanistan as their base.Other Mujahideen joined the Northern Alliance to oppose the Taliban rule.
After September 11, 2001 terror attacks in New York, the American and ISAF campaign against Al Qaeda and their Taliban allies made the Hindu Kush once again a militarized conflict zone.

Many US Coalition battle have already taken place in the Hindu Kush mountain ranges  (Nuristan Province) including the Battle of Kamdesh took place during the War in Afghanistan (2001–2014). It occurred on October 3, 2009, when a force of 300 Taliban assaulted the American Combat Outpost ("COP") Keating near the town of Kamdesh of Nuristan province in eastern Afghanistan. The attack was the bloodiest battle for US forces since the Battle of Wanat in July 2008, which occurred 20 miles (32 km) away from Kamdesh. The attack on COP Keating resulted in 8 Americans killed and 27 wounded whilst the Taliban suffered an estimated 150 killed.

2nd Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division "Spartans" having finished up a deployment to Isla Abramia (Operation Red Leopard) in the early spring of 2017, then transitioning to Germany to participate in Operation Bright Star (Coalition War Games) for the past several months have received deployment orders to Nuristan Province, Afghanistan in support of Operation Freedom’s Sentinel.

    Main Story Line

On 1 January 2015, U.S. Forces-Afghanistan (USFOR-A) formally ended its combat mission, Operation ENDURING FREEDOM (OEF), and commenced its new mission, Operation FREEDOM'S SENTINEL (OFS). Simultaneously, approximately 13,000 troops (of which nearly 10,000 are from the U.S.) from 41 nations commenced the new NATO mission, Resolute Support (RS), which focuses on Training, Advising, & Assisting (TAA) the Afghan Security Institutions (ASI) and ANDSF (Afghan National Defense and Security Forces) in order to build their capabilities and long-term sustainability. U.S. forces are now carrying out two well-defined missions: a Counter-Terrorism (CT) mission against the remnants of al Qaeda and the Resolute Support TAA mission in support of Afghan security forces. Our CT and TAA efforts are concurrent and complementary. While coalition force continue to attack the remnants of al-Qaeda, US Forces are also building the Afghan National Defense and Security Forces (ANDSF) so that they can secure the Afghan people, win the peace, and contribute to stability throughout the region.

The next two years of  this campaign will play a crucial role in cementing our gains. While US Forces strive to improve Afghan National Defense and Security Forces (ANDSF) capabilities and sustainability, US Forces will continue to re-posture our forces and adjust our footprint. As in the past, our drawdown will occur under enemy pressure. We will need to maximize the effects of our Train, Advise, & Assist Commands (TAACs) located at our four regional spokes in the north, south, east, & west of the country as we prepare for our eventual consolidation. US Forces will do all of this as we manage considerable risks to our mission and force and contend with myriad lethal threats.

Afghan National Defense and Security Forces (ANDSF) performance in 2014 and the first half of 2015 highlighted capability gaps and shortfalls that will most likely persist for years. Their most critical gaps are found in aviation, intelligence, special operations, logistics, & sustainment and the ASI's ability to conduct tasks such as planning, programming, budgeting, and human resource management. They are also working to improve integration between the different security pillars--army, police, and intelligence services. At the corps-level, our advisors are concentrating on developing Afghan National Defense and Security Forces (ANDSF) planning capacity, command and control, and operational capabilities. Additionally, they are addressing developmental shortfalls in the areas of medical and counter-IED measures. With limited exceptions, we have completed fielding of new equipment for the Afghan National Defense and Security Forces (ANDSF) and are now focused on sustaining that equipment and replenishing battle losses.

Although considerable challenges remain, the Afghan National Defense and Security Forces (ANDSF)’s capabilities, capacities, and morale will be sufficient--backstopped by our continued advisory efforts and limited enabler support--to provide for Afghanistan's long-term security. Our collective efforts are hardening the Afghan state and giving it needed time to develop and mature. By improving security conditions, we are also reducing the operating space for insurgents and incentivizing their participation in the reconciliation process.

Squad Training Focus: Pre-combat inspections (PCIs) are inspections performed by squad leaders prior to the execution of operations. Every soldier has heard of or taken part in PCIs, yet current Army doctrine does not clearly define or identify them. FM 6-0, Command and Control, simply states unit preparation includes pre-combat checks and inspections to ensure units, soldiers, and systems are fully capable and ready to execute. FM 7-10, The Infantry Company, states inspections must be used to supervise and refine troop-leading procedures, and gives a list of items to inspect to include weapons, equipment, soldiers’ knowledge, and communications. At the platoon level, FM 3-21.8 (FM 7-8, Infantry Rifle Platoon and Squad) states squad leaders should conduct initial inspections shortly after receipt of the warning order. It continues with the platoon sergeant conducting spot checks throughout the unit’s preparation for combat, and the platoon leader and platoon sergeant making a final inspection.

    They should inspect:
    Load Outs
    • Weapons and ammunition
    • Uniform and equipment
    • Mission-essential equipment
    • Soldiers’ understanding of the mission and their specific responsibilities
    • Communications (Clear Radio Freq set from FTL, SL, P-Staff)
    • Deficiencies noted during earlier inspections

Given this lack of definition and the clear importance of such inspections, the need to define a PCI is apparent.

    Squad Training should focus on:

    • Completion of  PCI - Pre-Combat Inspection on all soldiers assigned
      • Soldiers has mods updated and XML in working order
      • Soldiers has combat loadout up to standard
    • Completion of Battle Drills 1-6 at squad level
    • Completion of Convoy Security at squad level

Remember: Not Inspected, Often Neglected  - Pre-combat inspections are an important tool to help ensure mission success. Current doctrine does not specify the format, time allocated, or content of PCIs. Those units that do not conduct PCIs have problems during mission execution. Some even risk mission failure.

    Background

Operation Bright Star is a series of combined and joint training exercises led by United States and Coalition Forces around the World. It is designed to strengthen ties between the Coalition Armed Forces and the United States Central Command and demonstrate and enhance the ability of the Americans to reinforce their allies in the Middle East in the event of war. These deployments usually are centered in europe and parts of Africa. During the period following the liberation of Kuwait (Operation Desert Storm), these exercises have grown larger and have included as many as 11 countries and 70,000 personnel. Other allied nations joining Bright Star exercises include the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, Greece, the Netherlands, Jordan, Kuwait, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates.

The exercise begins with coalition interoperability training to teach nations how to operate with one another in a wartime environment, then continues with a Command Post Exercise designed to help standardize command and control procedures, and then a large-scale Field Training Exercise to practice everything together.

    Background

The Cecanian Police are currently struggling to hold off the ever growing force of drug smugglers known as the Abramian Rebel Alliance in the Republic of Abramia. The Republic of Abramia government has appealed to the NATO for help in strengthen security in their territory. The Republic of Abramia government are heavily underfunded using UAZs for transport, very primitive air, and a very limited supply chains. The CEC Forces are composed of about 100-200 men, armed with soviet era weapons. They are currently trying the stop the drug smugglers from overthrowing the island's government (democracy) lead by President General Ivan Dragan but within a few weeks and without help the government will be overthrown.  Back in 2006 President General Dragan performed Coup d'etat on Abramia and took control of the country. The overthrown president, President Stefan Olav, was corrupt by allowing these drug smugglers into the territory.   The overthrown president had been murdered in main square and all of his staff has been put to prison. Gen. Dragan set a curfew, requiring everyone to be indoors during night time to help protect them from the Abramian Rebel Alliance which has been getting stronger and stronger as the funding for the Abramia Government has been depleting over the years.  There has been rumors that many staff members in President General Dragan cabinet are still have strong ties to the former president family and President General Dragan has stated his concerns about further corruption within the  Republic of Abramia Government.

NATO has alerted United States Central Command’s (CENTCOM) Combatant Commander General Joseph  Votel who issued readiness orders to the 2nd Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division "Spartans" to begin pre mobilization training to assist in Abramia.

    Main Story Line

President General Ivan Dragan and the Republic of Abramia Government has informed us that the Abramian Rebel Alliance is a faction that is lead by Aslan Temir which was the son of the former president that General Dragan overthrew back in 2006.  Its saids to believed that Aslan Temir and the  Abramian Rebel Alliance are larger than what can be confirmed by the Abramia Government.  Rumors are that the Abramian Rebel Alliance have multiple cell working throughout the territory of Abramia but it's unconfirmed how many cells they have and what they are fully capable of doing. Intel received from some civilian populace says the majority of the cells are drug traffickers, including the largest, but others specialise in human and arms trafficking is rumored as well. They also have ties in the government and are very well funded by there actions. They never attack in large groups, neither do they keep strongholds or control cities, they conduct hit and run tactics and strike fear into the hearts of who ever they don't like. They do have camps throughout Abramia, but they are small and are easily moved, therefore conducting an attack on their camp is very hard to do. They are an elusive enemy that can pop out of anywhere without warning then vanish into nowhere with no trace, asymmetrical warfare. Our US Forces will struggle to fight this mobile enemy as they can see us coming from long distances and escape before US Forces even arrive. Is said that their weaponry will consist of anything from soviet era AKs, too m16s, 50cal MGs to snipers, as they have access to weapons from the arms trafficking on the island they have no shortage of weapons and no restrictions as to what they can use. In terms of vehicles they have less of an arsenal, as it is an island, smuggling tanks and armoured cars in is very hard, and to keep them hidden from the CEC police and forces are even harder, therefore they are not equipped with heavy vehicles, also, if they were to use large vehicles they would become less mobile and therefore lose their advantage of speed. They do however have access to civilian helicopters as they have a lot of money and they can be used to transport people and supplies around, they also use light aircraft and small boats to ship supplies in and out of the main island. The reason this island in particular is so notorious for its trafficking is because the underfunded police and corruption in the government means hiding weapons and other items like drugs is easy and there's a lower threat to them. In order to stop them from being able to continue their operations from this island, we need to capture the head of it all, Aslan Temir  and if we will do this relatively soon, this will stop the large scale attacks that will occur on the police force and local civilian population. These cells are like gorillas and have no set uniform, they can blend in with the civilians and disappear, however they do not make wise scales use of IEDS and roadside bombs as they value their island and don't want to blow up their own infrastructure.  Aslan Temir has a very indepth  infrastructure of many ringer leaders for the multiple cells running in the area and with the corruption within President General Dragan government staff will prove difficult to counter Aslan Temir’s Abramian Rebel Alliance.

2nd Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division having just coming off deployment from the territory of Al Rayak will continue onto Fort Irwin’s National Training Center to get more training on continuous counterinsurgency operations that reflected the ongoing and rapidly changing battlefield. Upon completion of the 2nd Infantry Brigade Combat Team rotation through the National Training Center they are set to deploy to Estonia’s Island of Prato (092063) just off coast of the territory of Abramia in support of the Republic of Abramia Government and the Cecanian Forces. The Estonian and Finland governments has placed diplomatic sanctions on Republic of Abramia which include assets freeze, travel ban, and arms embargo against the former President Stefan Olav that has been in place for a decade now as the Estonian and Finland governments are still unsettled about the Abramia Government corruption within  President General Dragan government but over the past few years key meetings between the Prime ministers and President General Dragan has helped diplomatic relations between the countries which is what allowed Estonia’s President Kersti Kaljulaid to agree to the US Forces using their small island off the coast of Abramia, in return of a future favor…

    Background

The Islamic extremists known as ISTS are a great deal more dangerous than most of us realize. The reason for this is hidden in plain sight in the name itself: ISTS. In English, this stands for Islamic State of Takistan and Sahrani, but that’s not what it stands for in Arabic: ad-Dawlat al-Islamiyya fī’l-‘Iraq wa’sh-Sham: The Islamic State of Takistan and Sahran. ISTS stands for Islamic State of Takistan and Sahrani because the group's territory straddles the border between the two counties. ISTS stands for Islamic State of Takistan and Sahrani and the Levant. The Levant is the historic name given to the entire region east of the Mediterranean from Egypt, east to Iran and to Turkey. With the increased amount of ISTS extremists in the Iraq/ Syrian territories the US Armed Forces and stepped up to help NATO is support of the Iraqi Military and the surrounding territories with Joint Coalition airstrikes and classified troop placement throughout the middle east in support of pushing ISTS back and reclaiming the captured territories from ISTS.

    Main Story Line

The Islamic State in the past 6 months have pushed its way throughout the middle east and intel has shown the territory of Al Rayak has heavy amounts of ISTS extremists in several of the main cities and control all of the seaports and most airfields within the territory. Territory leader “Jad Sem al-Muhammad” has requested some support from the Iraqi Army but their Chief of Staff of Iraqi Joint Forces Lieutenant General Khurshid Rasheed could not provide this support to the growing issues of ISTS in Iraq. Lt Gen Rasheed contacted the United States and pleaded for us to provide Aid. Members of the 3rd Ranger Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment QRF team quickly deployed and have been in in country for a couple weeks. they have managed to clear out the most northern airfield located at grid 182292. Having taken several casualties they have requested additional support to the area.   2nd Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division has received orders to support US/ Coalition Forces in the Al Rayak Territory effective as soon as possible.

2nd Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division having just coming off deployment from the territory of Kalu Khan will continue onto Fort Irwin’s National Training Center to get more training on Continuous counterinsurgency operations that reflected the ongoing and rapidly changing battlefield. Upon completion of the 2nd Infantry Brigade Combat Team rotation through the National Training Center they are set to deploy to territory of Al Rayak.

Phase One- Ghost In The Night
Intel- AH-64 Apache patrol shot down near border Balota Airstrip (Chernarus)
    Last contact: 08MAY15 1830 EST
Mission One (Arma)-  Search for the anti-aircraft weapon in the towns of Pavlovo, Zelenogorsk, Bor. 1st platoon of Alpha Company of the 3rd Infantry Division is to deploy near the crash site at 0300 hours, and investigate the three nearby towns. Find the Anti-Air vehicle and destroy it at all costs. Insertion will be via bradleys and the investigation will be on foot. There have been reports of a shuffling about these towns. We suspect the pro russians are here and behind. Converse with the locals and extract any possible information. This could be a brewing hornet’s nest, probably best to keep a low profile. Further orders will be announced after the information has been secured and reviewed

Mission Two (AAPG)- 3rd platoon of Alpha Company of the 3rd Infantry Division is tasked with investigating the outskirts of Zelenogorsk.  1st Platoon has found some intel and it needs to be delivered to Company HQ to be reviewed. Pro Russian forces have been on high alert since the crash and there has been lots of movement around the area.  (Map: FLO Downtown, Each Squad will have its own match to complete the OBJ)

    Phase Two - Hollowpoint
Intel-  with the Anti-Air vehicle destroyed and Intel reviewed by Company HQ that stated that a convoy of 3 vehicles had left the city of  Zelenogorsk and was last seen heading NorthEast. A Village elder questioned in the city of Bor informed us that many people in his village said they saw America’s in the back of one of the trucks. Couldn't tell if they were moving or not…
Missions One (Arma)-  1st platoon of Alpha Company of the 3rd Infantry Division will deploy via Airborne insertion to the fields of Stary Sobor and Kabanino in attempt to block in the convoy.  Once on the ground 1st Platoon will clear the city of Stary Sobor and work with the Village elders to put up roadblocks to halt the convoy prior to getting to airfield where we think they would try to get our pilots out of the country.

Mission Two (AAPG)-  The Village Elder of Kabanino has informed command that they heard of that Pro Russians have been using a underground railway in the city of Pustoshka that links Pustoshka to Lopatino to the Russian border.  3rd platoon of Alpha Company of the 3rd Infantry Division is tasked destroying the underground railway in the city of Lopatino. First by Airborne insertion 3rd platoon with get boots on the ground and make there way to the underground railway then destroy it. (Maps: FLO Redline, Each Squad will have its own match to complete the OBJ)

Phase Three - Battle of Pustoshka
Intel- With the stop of the convoy in the outskirts of Kabanino and the destruction of the underground railway in Lopatino, intel received states the Pro Russians are held up in the City of Pustoshka with a Company sized element awaiting word from their command on a exfil plan. Its unsure if our two Pilots are in this city but we will find out!

Mission One (AAPG)- 3rd platoon of Alpha Company of the 3rd Infantry Division will travel from the City of Kabanino through the city Vybor to assault the Pro Russian defenses to get to the City of Pustoshka. Accompanied by humvees, Bradley Fighting Vehicles (BFV) and Brawler CAS 1st Platoon will mount an attack in the Pro Russian defenses. Once to the outskirts of Pustoshka, 3rd Platoon will need to get into position to take 3 key points the the outermost part of the city to help the advance of the other Platoons.  (Map: FLO Three Kings, Each Squad will have its own match to complete the OBJ)

Mission Two(Arma)- 1st platoon of Alpha Company of the 3rd Infantry Division will travel from the City of Kabanino through the city Vybor to assault the Pro Russian defenses to get to the City of Pustoshka. Accompanied by Bradley Fighting Vehicles (BFV) and Brawler CAS 1st Platoon will mount an attack in the Pro Russian defenses/ stronghold.

    Phase Four - At Last
Intel-  After the smoke and the dirt cleared the city of Pustoshka is once again free of Pro Russian control. The Village Elder of Pustoshka stated that during the Pro Russian siege he nor any of his people saw our two Pilots but he manage to take a map from an Pro Russian command tent while being interrogated which shows a supply route  going South from the Village of Kozlovka into the City of Chernogorsk which has a harbor that has been used to Pro Russian supporters to smuggle in weapons and other contraband. It is believed that the Pro Russians pulled an ropeadope on us and headed South with a single vehicle and sent the convoy North as a decoy.

Mission One (AAPG)-  With the rapid deployment to Chernogorsk’s harbor, 3rd Platoon is tasked with getting to the Bay of Mutnaya and securing the harbor's main loading docks. (Map: FLO Harbor Assault, Each Squad will have its own match to complete the OBJ)

Mission Two (Arma)- Lucky with the quick deployment of 3rd Platoon we managed to secure the Harbor before any boats managed to leave. With our main base of operations just a few Kilometers away we managed to surround the city of  Chernogorsk to prevent the Pro Russian supporters slipping away.

End Story: Clearing of Chernogorsk took several hours but with the help of several locals the US Forces managed to locate the building that the Pro Russian supporters were holding our Pilots W01 T.Miller and W01 S.Smith. All of the supporters fled before the US Forces were near them and had chained up W01 T.Miller. W01 T.Miller was found alive but badly injured from the crash and multiple beatings from interrogations  and were given just enough medical aid from their captures to keep them alive. W01 T.Miller said that W01 S.Smith was killed during the crash and the Pro Russian took and dumped his body in the woods.  Alpha Company, 2nd Brigade, 1st Battalion, 30th Infantry Regiments, 3rd Infantry Division have been given orders to stay in the country of Chernarus and will remain stationed at Camp Mutnaya to provide support to the local villages to help fight off the Pro Russian advance into the country.

    Platoon Field Training Exercises

Field Training Exercises are in-game training sessions for infantry Soldiers. 3ID currently has one platoon organized into Alpha Company.

Platoon Leadership develop and teach weekly lessons on soldering tactics and use of equipment for Drills. Topics include, among others, tactical formations and movement, Battle Drills (e.g. React to Contact), convoy operations, radio communications, medical aid, military operations in urban terrain (MOUT), close-quarters battle (CQB), etc. Squad Leader assist their Platoon Leader and Platoon Sergeant as needed in presenting and leading Drills.

These training sessions are held on one of 3ID’s Arma 3 Training Servers, typically using the Ft. Stewart or other maps. Field Training Exercises, or FTX, are scheduled on a weekly basis Soldiers form up in-server Sunday @1430 EST and step off @1500 EST. It is required for everyone within the 3rd ID to attend unless they file a Temporary Pass Request or Leave of Absence. Under the Platoon Leader and Platoon Sergeant's direction, Squads train to improve offensive and defensive combat capabilities. This training builds Soldiers’ cohesion and performance in 3ID Operations as a Platoon. Platoon Drills also improve discipline, timeliness, and stress management through regular training. Development of these skill sets aids the unit in its immediate mission.

Field Training Exercises are platoon wide training exercises. Objectives may vary from the different Infantry Battle Drills, additional they can also vary from reconnaissance, search and destroy, garrison, etc. It is important that every Soldier stays aware of his situation on the ground as almost anything can happen during the training. Enemy presence is usually guaranteed and they will take advantage of any exploit they can acquire.
