Areas of Strength
Engagement in overgrown jungle terrain - Minimal MCI's inside of the jungle which allowed Widowmakers to continue at high speed,
Reaction to contact - Ambushes were responded to swiftly and minor firefights were broken in the interest of the bigger picture,
IED/Mine detection - Mines were quickly discovered by the many detectors the squads carry.
Areas of Weakness
Communication - With a lot of 2ICs or even 3ICs taking over, communication was difficult and slow,
Blue on Blue risks - Team members were using their weapons carelessly on small huts with thin walls which led to some close calls.
Suggested Improvements
3Cab support has been minimal in the last few weeks because of AA threats, perhaps lower the AA or 3cab needs to train how to avoid it because it's not that difficult. Nowadays they ground themselves at the thought of AA which really hinders our ability to call for CAS.
Mission Summary
Widowmakers landed on Beachhead Malibu and moved in a platoon formation to OBJ Speedo. On the way to the objectives, Widowmakers had a couple of ambushes but nothing that caused significant damage. At OBJ Speedo, the squads were split into sectors and the objective was emptied. At the end of OBJ Speedo there was 1 MCI due to an enemy machine gunner that got way too many shots off. Medics rushed to the scene to assist.
When everyone was up again, Widowmakers made a quick stop in Firebase Santa Monica. Widowmakers assisted in taking out a couple of attacking forces and then went on their way to OBJ Orca. Again there were a few ambushes on the way there, but overall nothing that couldn't be handled.
At OBJ Orca, Widowmakers once again split up and cleared the hamlet. They found 2 heavy static machine guns and also spotted some sort of execution going on in a nearby civilian village. Widowmakers dispatched 1 squad to said civilian village while the rest of the platoon moved back to Firebase SM to provide more support. Once they reached the firebase, the enemy fire had died down. Widowmakers took a second to resupply from the ammo storage and then headed towards OBJ Turbo.
Rinse and repeat, a few ambushes on the way there, subdivide into sectors, clear the objective. Widowmakers found a static Igla launcher as well as a ZSU and ran into a BTR. Other than that, it was mostly occupied by light/motorized infantry.
At the end, the platoon went back to the firebase and set up camp. A debrief was held and the men were free to rest.
