    Objectives

Provide ISR / CAS ISO Ground forces

    Accidents

    None

    Areas of Strength

Overcoming technical issues surrounding UAS AI and adjusting to execute and continue mission.

    Areas of Weakness

Communication problems plagued the mission in terms of technical issue compounding the issues with UAS AI problems. Tech and equipment were the primary factors of the negative side for the op today

    Suggested Improvements

Recommend an admin hold UAS and key Leader / Subject Matter Expert meeting on UAS operation and recurring issues to stabilize the system(s) to become 100% mission capable to support the ground force to the maximum extent possible

    Mission Summary

UAS was quick to get airborne and attempted to move to AO, however the AI immediately had issues accepting and maintaining commands given from the operator (Altitude, Loiter/Waypoints/Move).  The problems seem to be system wide across all UAS, RQ-4, MQ-9 and Standard Arma drones.  The UAS will try to drive themselves into the ground at high rates of speed, not fly to commanded waypoints/loiters and required constant manual piloting to save them from destruction. The AI will constantly drop it's own waypoints and then delete them (visible on map IRT). Possible default AI settings issues? ie stance and skill for AI(s)?

Eventually after a massive amount of time wasted on troubleshooting one UAS did stabilized and was moved to the mission AO at an altitude barely suitable for target exploitation and CAS support.

Comms issues then started with operator end microphone issues cutting out before full transmission of messages and reports leading to FALCON command elements having to relay via radio.

Partial solution was used using messaging via CTAB to Punchline for enemy target acquisition and CAS calls.

Viper and Slayer use cooperative manned unmanned teaming in the destruction of enemy occupied village, EKIA included tanks, technicals, bunkers (heavy secondary explosions), Possible artillery, Trucks, and many personnel
