Mission Summary
Spartans flew to FOB Dollar Store Restepo, a camp set up on a hill overlooking local terrain with empty Russian vehicles staggered around in various formations. Once there we begun talking about the use of mortars; how to operate them, how to read the range markers displayed on them, and the various different callouts that will be made before the first shells are fired. Once we finished discussing theory, every single member of the squad received a mortar tube and I selected two members at a time to practice mortars with. During the practice I gave further tips and made sure that soldiers are doing their callouts properly and are setting up their mortars as they should. Once every member had their turn and felt comfortable with using mortars, we moved on to Javelins where I explained how to use them; talking about the DIR and TOP modes and when each of them is useful, and explaining that the backblast aims slightly downwards so soldiers can keep that in mind when aiming the Javelin upwards. Afterwards every soldier got to practice with their Javelin, firing at various tanks moving about the empty desert. After enough practice we moved on to the MAAWS where again, every single soldier received one, we discussed theory, and then practiced using them. During practice I had the squad destroy all the vehicles that have been already placed, as well as firing on newly spawned moving targets. Once I was happy with the results of the target practice, we moved on to a small mission located in the town of Nur, OBJ Hamood, where we were to rescue a HVT named the Femboy of Kyiv. We drove a Stryker towards the objective, taking contacts on the way but not taking any casualties. Once at the objective we destroyed a checkpoint using BD1 and had the squad move with one team being placed in a SBF position while the other moves into the compound where the HVT is believed to be located. Once the HVT was located and the compound was clear I called an ENDEX and we debriefed.
