    Objectives

Alpha Company is ordered to establish a FOB at Airport Lesce, a NATO outpost being transferred from the Turkish Land Forces 66th Mechanized Infantry Brigade (NATO Very High Readiness Joint Task Force).

Once the transfer is complete, First Platoon will patrol two valley systems located southwest of FOB Rocky, Patrol Area Hike and Patrol Area Stroll. There are a number of civilian villages and hamlets in each, as well as potential cache sites. Enemy forces may be encamped in the surrounding mountains, which are concealed by thick forest. Search for signs of Russian separatist and Wagner Group presence, and collect as much actionable intelligence from the local populace as possible. If possible, make contacts with community leaders to develop long-term intelligence sources.

    Areas of Strength

The squad was able to uphold and proceed on to the assigned objectives with the absence of 2 CLS's.

    Areas of Weakness

Get the wounded on the Stryker and doing medical on the go. (the squad is fully trained on this but without both the CLS's, the fluidity of the squad goes down to a bare functioning state as TL's have to provide medical treatment for their members.  New privates have to be taught proper medical procedures to be able to assume the role of a CLS once the opportunity arises.

Green Privates/ new members that needs to be trained on unit/squad tactics.  The TL/SL micromanaging the team takes away their attention towards their main function.

    Suggested Improvements

Platoon coordinated assaults and spacing.  During the whole duration of the patrol.   There have been multiple instances that squads have bunched up too close to each other and suffered a good amount of casualties made by a single fragmentation grenade or an explosive ordinance.

Assaulting the positions today consisted mostly of squad pairs but BD2 (Platoon Assault) wasn't utilized. This is due to the fact that when 1 squad goes down, the other squad was tasked to clear an objective on its own and therefore not being able to use BD2.  The squad would then have to result to using BD2A (Squad Assault) which was at times not efficient due to the number of members that our current squads have. (average of 6 people per squad)

What could have been done better was to re-enforce the assaulting squad with another squad that was operational to perform and utilize BD2. (Although it was fairly understandable that other squads had their own engagements) It is clear that in order for a squad to be sufficient on their own in taking an objective, they must have a full squad sized strength to proceed on taking a fortified objective.

    Mission Summary

The platoon convoy started out at FOB Rocky towards a few clicks towards the western area to initiate a presence patrol. 4th Squad "Phoenix" was able to quickly patrol its designated area and found nothing out of the ordinary aside from a burning truck (which looked to be a zues/AI mishap).  4th squad linked with 3rd squad and went on to patrol P4 which 4th squad encountered a civilian that was wielding a secondary firearm and eventually shot towards our general direction which prompted our squad to open fire.  The civilian then took cover in a house which we breached and ended up neutralizing the armed civilian.  In one of the rooms, we saw a captive which we then eventually had extracted on linkup point blister.

After clearing P4, we linked up with the rest of the platoon on P5 wherein we were tasked to spearhead and clear P10.  On the way to the objective,  we were met with small arms fire which prompted me to have a fireteam move up on foot on the southern hills with elevation while the mounted Stryker team moved up using the road in parallel with one another.  Due to small arms fire engagement, we have suffered 1 casualty during the exchange of fire but was quickly treated.    We were then tasked to overtake the squad which were clearing P10 to clear out P13 wherein we received heavy fire from a militarized compound.  As we dismounted from the Stryker, we were met with small arms fire and fragmentation.  As the assaulting fireteam had it's TL incapacitated, I led the fireteam and Stryker team to eliminate all threat inside the compound and clear out the houses and buildings surrounding the militarized compound.

Once all the buildings were cleared, we were tasked to hold the Eastern road leading towards the rest of the towns where we had friendly civilian interaction. We took accurate sniper shots towards the south of P13 but was able to eliminate the threat.  We were then tasked to head to P9 to clear it.  Once reporting all clear, we were tasked to head over to P12 to link up with 3rd squad who was pinned down.  Upon arriving, we took accurate shots from contacts situated to the north and south, we took heavy casualties but was able to be mediated by the assistant squad medic who was stationed on our position.   Upon eliminating all threats, 4th squad was then tasked to clear out P15 from hostiles, here we took heavy casualties again and when the supporting squad went it, took heavy casualties of their own as well.  This was the point that 1 of our new Private (PV2 P.Perez) was detached from his fireteam and eventually following a squad to P16 which lead to his death (KIA).   Upon reconsolidating, we then moved towards P17 and eventually assaulted P19 with the rest of the platoon while 1 squad was dispatched to P18.  After clearing P19, we had to re-enforce the squad located at P18 which was the last area where enemy contacts were seen.

The rest of the platoon was extracted by 3CAB while 4th squad went back to P17 and started a convoy back to FOB Rocky with the medical vehicle.
