79th Anniversary of Operation Overlord

On this Day, June 6th, 1944.
The Allied Forces under the Command of President Dwight D. Eisenhower, composed of forces from the United States, United Kingdom, and Canada gathered on the Southern Shores of England, as far West as Plymouth, and East at Brighton. Launched the largest Naval and Amphibious invasion the world has ever seen to this day.
Given the Operational designation 'Overlord' most of the young men referred to it simply as 'Dday'. Soldiers landed on the beach heads the morning of June 6th, each part of Normandy Beach was cut into sectors, Americans have Omaha and Utah. The English had Gold and Sword. and the Canadians have Juno. And after a long day of fighting, the Allied Forces tolled a casualty count of over 10,000. 4,400 of which were confirmed KIA.

2nd and 5th Ranger Battalion: Omaha Beach
51st (Highland) Infantry Division: Juno Beach
2nd Canadian Infantry Division: Juno Beach
