Operation Iraqi Freedom is the Official United States Designation for the war that took place in Iraq from 2003 to 2011 with the intention of overthrowing the government of Saddam Hussein.  During this war, the initial invasion started on March 20th, 2003, led by the United States of America, by the “Coalition of the Willing”. Finding immediate success of the invasion, the Coalition had successfully deposed Hussein on April 9th, 2003, and the capture of Hussein on December 14th, 2003. After years of fighting a scattered insurgency across the country, President Barack Obama declared the end of Operation Iraqi Freedom on August 31st, 2010, with the official withdrawal ending on December 18th, 2011.

The celebration of this day, August 31st is to show honor and remembrance to the brave Coalition soldiers that stormed into the unknown in 2003 to secure the freedom and independence of a nation under the boot of a Tyrant.
