Seabee Birthday
Reported By R.Flannigan
The United States Naval Construction Battalions or better known as Seabees is celebrating its birthday on this 5th of March. The Seabees have been in operation since the 1940's when they were conceived.
The Seabees were formed as a means to remove the use of civilian contractors within hostile environments. This was due to the large use of private construction companies before the attack on pearl harbor. After this attack however, the Seabees creation was put into motion and by 1942 they were authorized to be formed. This was due to the fact that civilian contractors caught in a fight would have to put down their tools or be classed as guerrillas. This would mean that they were liable to summary execution by the enemy.
The Seabees were formed to give the US a body of men who were both trained as soldiers with the necessary training to find themselves in a combat situation. This meant that they could construct and work anywhere at any time. This meant that the US now had a construction battalion that was able to both work in some of the most dangerous environments, but also that they had a professional construction force that could be deployed to wherever they were needed. Which is why they distinguished themselves so during the second world war where they were first founded and put to use in the theater of war.
So on the 5th of March we celebrate the Seabees and their impressive heritage as the modern Roman Soldier, able to build anything, anywhere.
"We Build, We fight!"
