      On this day, January 16th, 1991. After 6 months of building coalition forces in Saudi Arabia, Joint Commanders from the United States, United Kingdom, France, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt launched phase 2 of the Persian Gulf War, also known as Operation Desert Storm.

      What followed was a multi-pronged offensive in order to liberate the independent nation of Kuwait, and to rid the world of the then-dictator of Iraq, Saddam Hussein.

      Companies of the 82nd and 101st Airborne Divisions with attachments from the French Infantry under the XVIII ABN CORPS on the left, 2nd Armored Cav Regiment, 1stID, 1st Cavalry, and the 1st and 3rd Armored Divisions with attachments from the UK and 5th SFG under the VII CORPS in the center. And Joint Forces Command North, Joint Forces Command East, and Marine Central Command to the right. All coming down to a war lasting 1 month and 11 days.
