National Pearl Harbor Day
Reported By SPC Z.Williamson
On the early Sunday morning of December 7, 1941, the Imperial Japanese Navy Air Service attacked the neutral United States at Naval Station Pearl Harbor near Honolulu, Hawaii. In the suppressive aerial assault, more than 2403 Americans lose their lives and 1178 were injured. And concerning the material cost: four US Navy battleships were sunk and four were damaged. According to the speech to Congress, President Franklin D. Roosevelt called the bombing of Pearl Harbor "a date which will live in infamy".
As one of the first consequences of the unprovoked attack, on December 8, the United States of America declared war on Japan leading its entrance into World War II on the side of the allies.
On Pearl Harbor Day, the American flag should be flown at half-staff until sunset to honor those who died as a result of the attack on US military forces in Hawaii.
