WARNORD 19JUN20 - Mission: Back to the Future...Part II

 

1. SITUATION

 

Last night the Commander of the Altis Armed Forces, Colonel Georgious Akhanteros, staged a military coup in Kavala. His army has seized the capital and begun to push east to attack forces loyal to the Altian civilian government. A loyalist faction under the command of Kostas Stavrou, called the Freedom and Independence Army (FIA), has begun to form in Pyrgos to counter-attack. US Ambassador Michael Ambrosia reports that Kavala has descended into chaos, with rebel forces executing civilian government officials and looters rampaging across the city. Embassy security personnel report that the facility has been under surveillance since the coup.

 

Your US Army team, part of the NATO Partnership Training and Education Centres program, remains on high alert in Kavala. After building a good relationship with local AAF forces over the past two months, Akhanteros is not in a hurry to go to war with NATO. The Joint Chiefs have ordered us to stand down as Brussels and Washington monitor the situation. In a speech last night, Akhanteros revealed that he has received support from CSAT, further complicating the political situation.

 

2. MISSION

 

In a stunning betrayal, this evening CSAT forces assassinated Colonel Akhanteros and launched an amphibious assault on Altis. The US Embassy reports Iranian aircraft have begun bombing targets in Kavala. CSAT Special Forces units are believed to be operating in the city, and looters are rioting.

 

NATO Coalition Tzatziki has begun to mobilize against CSAT forces in the Mediterranean, but the initial QRF is over 2 hours out. Your team, callsign Hoplite, is to link up with friendly AAF units in Kavala and defend the city until relieved.

1. The Kavala Coup has split Altis in half overnight. SIGINT interception has revealed that despite the death of Akhanteros and looming CSAT invasion, AAF and FIA forces plan to continue operations against each other.

 

2. CIA assets report civil unrest across the island with a spike in crimes of opportunity. Military units on both sides, as well as civilian gangs, have begun building roadblocks.

The situation in Kavala continues to deteriorate. The State Department has now ordered the evacuation of all non-essential American citizens from Altis.
