WARNORD 17 JUL 20 - Mission: Longshot

 

1. SITUATION

 

Following several decisive engagements with Taliban forces, security has begun to improve in the district. Thanks to our work, a local cell of militants was driven out of Bastam and into the surrounding mountains, and we have the gratitude of the mayor and his residents.

 

However, recent Taliban radio traffic revealed a reallocation of forces from Herat to the Takistan district. Additional SIGINT indicates local warlords may be staging for a new offensive. Whatever the case is, we cannot let ourselves sit with a false sense of security.

 

2. MISSION

 

First Platoon will move north of Bastam and defend the southern approach to Rasman Airbase. Convoy to OBJ Ashak and occupy the fortified ridgeline overlooking the MSR until relieved.
