1. SITUATION
 
Four months after Royal Dutch Shell opened the al-Rutbah oilfiends, an ISIS hunter killer group overran the facilities there, killing several security contractors and oil workers. Elements of the Iraqi Army’s 26th Infantry Brigade have assaulted the oilfields twice without success, taking heavy casualties both times. Located in western Anbar Province, the site is located 90km from the Syrian border, and at the end of the military logistics train. ISIS forces have also rebuilt the fortifications on the objective, making a number of improvements.
 
The Iraqi Prime Minister has requested US assistance in retaking al-Rutbah. In addition to ISIS, local militia and armed criminal gangs are known to operate in the AO and may be helping to smuggle oil out of the region. The objective, OBJ Tarpit, is a fortified tower encampment on a hill overlooking the oilfield to the north. Iraqi intel indicates ISIS maintains a mechanized company sized element just west across the border, which supports a platoon holding the objective.
 
2. MISSION
 
Seize OBJ Tarpit and secure the surrounding oilfields. Hold the area until relieved by friendly forces from the Iraqi 26-7.
