Battle of Marawi

1. SITUATION

Abu Sayyaf and Maute Group insurgents have sworn allegiance to IS and joined forces in an assault on Marawi, Lanao del Sur province, Philippines. Islamic fighters have come into the region to establish a wilayat and expand the Islamic caliphate in the Philippines.
Jihadists have taken control of most of the Calamar district, including the hospital, university, and city hall. Municipal and provincial police forces have suffered heavy casualties and rampant desertion in the initial attack.

2. MISSION

First Company (Recon) is ordered to move east and assault Marawi. Clear Camp Ranao (OBJ Adobo), the Calamar district (OBJ Bulalo) and the airport (OBJ Chicharon). Kill/capture enemy HVTs Isnilon Hapilon (Abu Sayyaf commander) and Abdullah Maute (Maute Group commander).
